Just got back from PRI and talked with Wilson Manifolds (who makes the TB's for FAST too) and talked with them about their 77mm and 90mm TB's for the FAST intakes. I actually have to talk with them about this a little more today.

From what I can remember the pricing on the Wilson stuff is similar to what MTI is saying.

What pressure is the MTI TB rated at?

1000cfm @ 28" is pretty easy, JPR has test one of our OEM hand ported ones and seen more than that at 28".

FWIW, TB's and carbs are rated at 20.3" of H2O or 1.5" Hg. So if you had 1000cfm @ 28" it would be about 854cfm @ 20.3"

Our hand ported stock units flow 900cfm @ 20.3", Wilson's 77mm TB's are listed at 945cfm, the 90mm TB is around 1300cfm both of which are about right for the added flow area. (both rated @ 1300cfm)

900cfm for $200
1000cfm for $400
1300cfm for $400

How does that compare?

Thumbs up

Hello All,First i would like to congratulate Jayson @MTI on taking things to the next level as always.
I have the new MTI TB on my car now,to make a long story short, all i can say is The MTI Billet TB is totally Awesom.
It performs as well as it looks,I gained 12 rwhp an 10 rwtq.
This is not a modified stock GM unit.
Everything is machined from Billet Aluminum.
You guys must see this piece in person.

Just a question for my own peace of mind. Why would 'billet' make any difference compared to a Bauer or S2 or my own 'ported polished' TB?
From my experience, 'billet' tacked onto anything, grill, shift ****, etc. is a nice way of jacking the price of something that provides NO performance benefit!
I geuss it's like the old saying, "If it don't go...chrome it!"
If it's just like everyone elses aftermarket TB, make it 'billet' and make LOTS more $$$.

How do you figure? The BBK one is cast aluminum and isn't polished, and has shown no noticeable gains over a stock t-body, yet it retails for the same $399 as the MTI billet one does.

It can "go" and still be pretty

Billet refers to the material used to make it. Cast units (like stock) is molten aluminum poured into a mold (casting).. this is usually less attractive and not as strong as something machined from a billet inget (block) of aluminum.

I doubt the fact the billet TB is stonger matters at all.. and to some the fact that the material is more attractive matter either. BUT to some of us we want it to look good and perform good and thats worth a few $$ extra.

Also, I would think you could have tighter tolerences in machining out a billet TB as opposed to casting one.. but im no expert here..

I will be calling MTI though and placing my order

Cool

Thanks for emphisizing my point, Nine Ball, what is there about a billet TB that makes it any better hp wise than a stock ported TB? IMHO, the best you can say for a "Billet" TB is that it looks good. Hence the "chrome it" comment.
I wasn't comparing the MTI specifically to the BBK, which I wouldn't buy either. $400 for their TB IS insane! Just questioning the "Billet" hype.
Quite honestly, I am a fan of MTI and quality, etc., is not the question. As far as you, Nine Ball, are concerned, your comments and instructions have saved my butt and my billfold more than once and I respect you and your comments/observations. So, this is not about me getting after either of you.
Again, it's just a question of the use of billet aluminum for this application and the accompaning "price" just 'cause it IS billet.
Bottom line here, convince me to buy the MTI because it out performs "X", "Y", "Z" or S2 or Bauer (Which, BTW, look good polished/powdercoated @ less than 1/2 the price.)

I think the pricing is fine, if you don't like it don't buy one, supply and demand will eventually take care of price.

perhaps MTI should come up with a cast version that is chromed and try to offer that at the same price?

Actually at a low output level it going to cost less to make them out of billet.

Honestly they are making a killing on them. We looked at doing a full billet one and it would cost us about $200 to make a full billet TB at our price.

I still want to know at what pressure those things made 1000cfm. If mine flow 1050cfm @ 28" and 900cfm @ 20.3" it would be a interesting comparison. If they flowed that 1000cfm @ 28" then I probably wouldn't say what pressure they flow them at either.

Jason,

Good work, excellent product!!! When the 90 MM comes out with the FAST intake, I will be a knockin'... what would you guess the power increase would be on that C5-R 427 (S1 cam) you built me. Currently running Ls-6, with polished 75 mm TB. I pulled 503 RWHP. 509 TQ. with current setup. but still more ponies left on the table...not quite tuned in yet.

BTW, to all...I highly recommend MTI They take care of business, i.e. the word "customer" means somthing to these guys.

Thanks,

Ron

Damn, bringing this thread back from the dead. I'm glad I could contribute to it though because this thread is what made me decide to purchase it. Don't mind the tarnished IAC.
