shorties
I have a 1999 Z28, Is it worth it for me with to get shortie headers (98,99 exhaust manifolds don't flow as well as 01,02) or don't even bother. NY state inspections are a bitch. If so what would I gain. For the money, should I just stay stock.
Thanks

There will always be a huge debate on whether shorties are worth any horsegain and if they are worth the money. Yes they are worth about 10 horse and about 10 footpounds of torque. Now whether they are worth the money is up to you, I got mine for pretty inexpensive and YES they were 100 percent worth the money. What changed my mind besides the noise of LT's and scraping, Oh Yah and the money was this article:
http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...est/index.html
Now if c5 corvette manifolds can do this, isn't it reasonable to assume a good shorty would do the same if not better.
Now you will have a ton of people bombard you with LT's, but from one person you will here it, if you can get a deal on them get them install them you will enjoy them.

From what I've read, 98- 99 manifolds do not flow very well so there's a plus. Also, the weight savings. Something like 40lbs.
How difficult are they to put in? I would think it would be easier than LT's.

I did not have much of a problem with mine, bolted right up. cats, AIR and all. and yes as far as putting them back in they were very easy. From what I understand sometimes LT's can be a nightmare and sometimes they can bolt right up.

I'm in suffolk county. One of main concerns is price. A good set of headers,Y-pipe, probably a tune will cost around $1500, and that's if I put them in myself. I have like zero time on the weekends.

If your looking for shorties, I have a brand new set of coated Pacesetters for sale. Personally, I would go LT if at all possible, but shorties would be worth it if you can't run LTs.

join fastlsx.com. its an fbody/vette board with 99% of its members from LI. we got a few local sponsors who do great work (i got my lt's and y pipe installed for $350 from a sponsor). a dyno tune isnt necessary after headers; a mail order tune is sufficient.

I like to do alot of research before I make a purchase, especially a high cost item like headers,y-pipe.. etc.
