Default SLP headers IMPORTANT!!!!!

i found a hella good deal on some SLP long tube headers but i heard that they are the worst flowing header and not to get them. But how can a company promise half a sec. off of quarter mile time and they not be good and make 40hp? Post up your suggestions please!

They promise that so it can sell.

The biggest problem with the SLP headers is how low they hang.

As far as performance, almost all longtube headers perform the same. I would recommend the Pacesetters as they have been absolutley great!

I think the Hooker LT's are the best for the money. That's what I have and I absolutely love them. You can find them really cheap used.

low budge - pacesetters
mid range - jet hots/hookers
top end - kooks/qtp

i got jet hots myself. SLP is the king of marketing, but you'll find that when it comes down to it they dont perform all that well over another setup to justify the cost.

I say a good priced header is Hookers. I bought them because I got them on a good deal and planned on upgrading later on. Other thing is I only scrapped my Hookers once cause my car fell into a pot hole in a pitch black parking lot that I just didnt see. But I know plenty of people who have scrapped their SLP headers over speed bumps.

I have had no problems with my SLP headers and off-road Y-pipe. My before and after dynos showed I picked up 25hp & 23 ft-lb with no tuning at all. Not bad for just a header swap. The only other mods I had at that time was a MTI lid and a dynomax bullet muffler for an exhaust.

Gotta agree with felton. My SLP LTs hang a bit, but I haven't sraped them yet. I went diagonally, slow over speed bumps before the install. If you are planning on lowering your car - don't buy 'em, but if you are getting a good deal, I say go for it, you won't regret it. The install is a pain, but they bolt up beautifully, and you can defintely feel the power improvement.

SLP LT's do not suck at all. The quality and finish is great. Like everybody else said, they just hang toooo low. Do a search, and you will find some pics from underneath some cars with SLP installed. Good luck.

Hookers or Pacetters IMO, Problem with SLP is they hang wayyy to low. I think they make OK power but for what they cost I would purchase some Hooker LT's. Good Luck

There are nothing Wrong with SLP headers in the performance department in fact a guy about 6 weeks ago was on here that said he lost 3 hp by switching his SLPs for Hookers. Do a Search it may still come up. You'll find alot of people on various bored that heard one bad thing about SLPs and decided to spread it everywhere as fact. If you can find them for a decent price then get them if not get the hookers and live happily ever after until your AIR tubes fall off.

The problem with the Hookers and Pacesetters is they will rust out in a year and the SLP`s will last longer than your car. As far as performance they work just fine on all the cars in my shop. Bone stock WS6 gained 26rwhp, all bolt on 98TA dynoed 347. I have seen just as much HP out of SLP as anything else short of our custom $2000.00 headers.

For fit and finish and quality don`t cheat yourself get the SLP`s.

My buddy's SLPs are rusted, he's only had them for a little over a year.

I have the SLPs and I will say that the fit, finish, and quality is top notch. However, they are very poor for ground clearance. I scrape going out of my driveway. I scrape over speed bumps. I scrape going diagonally over speed bumps. It is really a sickening sound to hear your $800 headers dragging across pavement. I'm switching to Kooks.

Thumbs up SLP Header Pic

Just thought I would let you see how low the SLP headers hang. Sitting in my garage, the drivers side is 3-5/8" from the ground and the passenger side is exactly 3". At first, I was pretty PO'd, but I have learned to live with it - as in, I don't go over speed bumps or cross them at an angle, I don't drive my car at night if at all possible - dead animals or debris in the road, etc. It really isn't that bad, you just have to remember to remember! I have a 2000 Firehawk with the Bilstein/Eibach upgrade from SLP and my car only has 9900 miles on it. It is a fair weather car and knowing what I know now about the different headers, I might choose a different brand, had I known that they were going to hang that low on the passenger side. The cars lowest point was 4.5" prior to the header install. The pic says a lot! I still like them, but it is a worry when I drive it!
