Question anyone else have this problem with FTRA?

ever since I installed my FTRA (like a year ago) it raised my airbox up and causes the top of the air box to rub the bottom of my hood. Its not major but it is causing a slight amount of marring (I think that is how you spell it) on both surfaces.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and has a fix for it.

I have the same problem.. Let me guess you have a SLP performance parts lid too? I'm thinking of switching to TSP to see if it helps, but I like the AIR tube..

I have the FTRA with the LS1 Motorsports lid....I have never had any problems with the lid rubbing the underside of the hood....This setup has been on the car for over a year....

I believe it is mainly with SS hoods because in the tear drop area of the hood infront of the scoop the fiberglass is lower then the Z28's hoods.

addicted - no I dont have an SLP lid. In fact I switched to the TSP lid in hopes that it would help / solve the problem, because it was not as tall as my MTI lid (I also hoped to gain some performance out of it). But all it did was help a little, its just a smaller patch that is rubbing now.

And yes it is rubbing on the part of the SS hood it drops. So the FTRA is raising tha air box for you guys too?

May be it's the SS hood issue. Personally I think you just didn't install it correctly. I have FTRA installed AND raised airbox (put couple washers in there to raise it), and still have some clearance left. I have z28 though.

i have a stock z28 hood with ftra and the mti lid hits and rubs white paint on the top of the lid. Its not that big of a deal because mine just rubs off with a little elbow grease.

Well it did raise it. And just like KGSloan I know I installed it right, because it is completely flush. I am not bad mouthing FTRA, I love it and have no regrets. I was just wondering if those that have / had experience with it may have had a fix for it rubbing.

Then you didn't trim the lower air box correctly...

... thought I had a good shot of where you need to trim it.. but can't find it.

Other possibility is you put the "seals" in accross the left and right sides.. which already "seal" without them.

Basically the sides of the airbox need to set flat on the radiator support.

I have the TSP lid on a z28 with the FTRA and have rubbing. It has scuffed the top of my smoked lid so I put a piece of velcro on the hood where I thought it was rubbing and no problems since.

Yeah I have the FTRA and the ss hood also and I am having the same issues. Everytime I pop the hood I get to see some nice red paint on my lid from the underside of the hood
