help me hit 500whp in my ls1 :)
OK guys currently these are my mods and power levels im at..
stage 3 patriot 5.3L heads
stock rebuilt 5.7L ls1
1.75 ratio roller rockers
kooks long tubes to 2.5" y to a single 3" exhaust (no cats) borla xr-1 race muffler..
stage 3 spec clutch
descreened maf sensor
stock ls1 intake and throttle body
voodoo .567" lift cam at 228 dur 113 LSA
so far ive put down 397whp, and 430ft/lbs all at the wheels.. you can find my dyno sheet in the dyno section on here..
my goals are simple break 500whp using my heads and stock cubes with no boost..
I understand the ls1 intake is a restriction and if i change now to a ls6 id prob be close to 410whp with that alone.. and i also know I will need a larger camshaft.
this is all put through a t56 trans..
tell me which cam i should pick to do this on the stock cubes and natural aspiration while being fairly streetable.. it will be a weekend cruiser for me not a daily driver.. but id like decent mileage out of it too of course..
I always could just spray nitrous on top of what I already have but id like to have the power all the time and no refill costs. what ya all think??

500 RWHP on stock cubes and stock compression is going to be a pretty aggressive engine. You'll need to go big on the cam and get a FAST 90/90 set-up. I don't know much about those heads but they probably flow enough to make it to 500 RWHP.
People were making 500 RWHP back in 2000 with head/cam kits on stock cubes and stock compression. But I think they were pretty rough for daily driving.

im really thinking it may be best just to add a good intake on my car, retune it and spray for when i want the extra power at the strip doing so I can get away with a 150shot most likely! plus its cheapest.. i dunno...

Very nice numbers with that VooDoo cam, it's the same cam I run in my cam only/spray 98 Formula. I say just go 100 shot and be done.....you can use it when you need it and the run N/A the rest of the time, but I would definitly upgrade to a FAST intake on top of what you have now. Pm'ing you as well

If you absolutely have to make 500 Rwhp, spray it.
Other wise set a more realistic goal, talking money wise/time wise/and actually being able to hit it.
Something around 460Rwhp would be much more of a goal IMO. I would rather have tons of power under the curve with 460 peak, than 500 peak and hardly nothing under the curve.

and forget the LS6 like some guy said, you need the ported FAST.
..and you need better exhaust too..lot of work along with the bigger cam!!

agreed on that!, for an N/A build a set of patriot heads will not get you there nor will an ls6 intake. a set of TEA trickflows or a nice set of AFR's and a larger camshaft to go with a ported fast will get you close but no promises.many have tried and failed at it. but it is doable!

Custom cam, TFS 215's, and all supporting mods (1 7/8 ARH, DMH cutouts, EWP, UD pully, Ported FAST 90 or 92mm and a ported 90mm Tb, 85mm MAF, 11.5 to 1 compression or even a touch higher, and a good CAI, she is going to need to breath. Going to need a good tuner so she'll be drivable. My cam would be appropriate for a MAX effort 346. Also matches perfectly with TFS 215's. My cam was spec'd around the TFS 215's. Specs are 239/243 .623/.623 113+3, and btw I have a 402. The extra cubes and awesome tuning by Mike at Vengeance Racing makes her drive like stock ! No bs either when I say drivability is like stock. The 346 might be a bit rough at idle but quite drivable with a perfect tune. I'd bet on making 500 rwhp 450 rwtq with the above setup.

Like said before, if you're you're set on 500rwhp you're either going to need a small dose of nitrous, or new heads. From a cost standpoint, it would be far cheaper to spend the money on a 100 shot of nitrous than TFS/AFR heads, a new cam, MAF, Ported FAST and a whole new exhaust system.
You're looking at at around $5000 plus a tune for 500rwhp NA. Nitrous wouldn't be much more than $1500 plus a tune.
Even those heads with a huge cam won't guarantee you 500rwhp. Nitrous will. If the 100 shot doesn't get you there, you can step it up to a 125 shot.

I am very close to the 500rwhp mark but not quite there,
My cam is a 233-239 .595/.604 112ls.
I have a fast 92/92 set up.
Ported 5.3 heads with a 10.75.1 compression
I had a highway tune and after I install the FAST fuel rails and 60lb injectors and a 100mm MAF I will be taking it to be dyno tuned.
