Default SSRA or FTRA?!?!?!?!

Which is better.........The Super Sucker Ram Air or The Fast Toys Ram Air?

I am in the market for either one right now, and wish to see which is better in driveability (Does it Scrape), Performance, and Quality.

I'm running the FTRA on mine and no complaints or problems from it, good quality and fairly easy to install.

Get the SSRA. The performance is great. I asked my buddy who has the FTRA to help me. He was surprised how easy and quick it was compared to his FTRA. I've never scraped mine.

do the fra and remove the bumper support and windsheild washer resevoir. That clears out room for a sh*tload of air.

I chose the SSRA casue the FTRA slightly blocks the Radiator and on an Automatic car the Trans cooler also blocks the radiator so with both your not getting alot of air flow to cool the motor.

I've heard that the ftra can absorb heat, since it's made out of metal, possibly making the engine run a bit hotter.

Not to steal the thread, but are both these alot better than fra w/o the bumper support and washer reservoir removed?

just wondering on this....since the ftra is metal, when its cool out, shouldnt the metal be colder of the ftra and benefit you since the air would be flowing through the cool ftra body and since the ssra is plastic it wouldnt benefit you as much. but when its hot out the ssra would be better . just curious.

SSRA just won my heart, wow, it's quality is amazing! Thanks to Al, the owner of Austin Performance fo showing me his site. Now I must do some price checks.

BTW Fast Toys Ram Air doesn't diretly channel air in, while the SSRA does.

With the SS it's definately worth it. That design was not worth a damn anyway because of where they put the air duct in the hood. Most SS guys I talked to laugh at it and use either FTRA or SSRA and just consider the SS hood an appearance mod.

With the WS6 it's not quite that cut and dry. The concept of the WS6 hood is a good one. The air ducts are in the front of the hood and feed the airbox directly which is what you want. The problem is that the hood is not sealed to the airbox. There is a 1.5" gap between the hood nostrils and the front of the airbox which keeps a true "ram air" affect from taking place. They sell a kit that fixes this (BG ram air) but it costs $300. So the choice then is $300 to make the nostrils truly functional or $200 for the SSRA.

Some try and use weather stripping or something like that to seal it themselves without the expensive BG kit. This I suppose is the best solution to WS6 owners if they can do it right. So it's common for SS owners to use SSRA and not unheard of for WS6 owners to use it.

Hope that answers your question.

Go Super Sucker.
The SSRA design is just way way way way ahead of the competition. It ducts air away from the radiator making the Ram Air a cold air system also. The FTRA lines the radiator, making heat the enemy.

In my opinion the more air coming in the better.

I'm still on the fence about that sealing the air filter box to make a "slight" supercharging effect. You would have to use that gooey caulk/weatherstripping you use in your shower or tub to get a 100% seal. You would have to caulk ALL seams to make it airtight. That means after you put your lid on, you would have to seal the lid also with caulk. Any positive pressure built up would leak out I think, unless you do this.
The SSRA(Austin Ram Air) however seals the best. The SSRA kit comes with weatherstripping already attached on the back and sides. The front is sealed by weatherstripping that is impregnated with steel. This clamps onto the ledge where air enters the lid normally. Compare for yourself. The others seal with weatherstripping, side to side about 3/4 of the way back on the filter. I designed the SSRA to seal to the back edge of the air filter TRAY. NOT the filter like the competitions. That last 1/4 of filter is where the pressure leaks out on the competitions design. For an analogy, think of a fence. The air just jumps it.

People with the SSRA, how do you like the way it seals?
