Default Boom Tube on an Fbody.....Its in the mail!

Back not to long ago there was a thread with some pictures of a boom tube on one of the GM performance division cars and alot of talk about fitting on an Fbody. I had been thinking of doing it for a while and figured what the hell. And got alot of reply's saying I should give it a shot. Well as of today, "Big Brown" is bringing me my Dr. Gas 3 1/2 ovalized X pipe hooked to a 2 into 1 Dr. Gas right side exit boom tube. I cant wait to get this on the car. Only problem 1 problem. i found out last night that I need a new shortblock. the stocker decided to drop a sleeve on me. Thats ok though. I have a balanced/forged 393 in the works

just thought I would share. When the boom tube gets here, I'll post pics.

Also, I tried searching for that original thread and came up empty handed. If anyone could throw me the link with the pictures I would appreciate it so I can start planning how to route the exuahst.

I remember posting on that thread. Anyhow, invest in some nice earplugs and enjoy. Hope your neighboors like you also. Good luck and post some sound clips ASAP.

Those pics are great but realize that the F-car in that pic has no mufflers on it.

Good chance mine wont either . I am still trying to figure a few things out with the set up. I dont like using mufflers prior to the X. it reduces the scavanging effect (if I remember right). I might just have to throw some bullets on it right after the headers. But that might place the boom tube to far back. The boom tube pictured moves around the trans, the way my pipe is set up will more than likely go right under the trans. I dont know though. Once it gets here I will start looking into it some more. I can MAKE it work, its just a question of how much gets spent.

I have looked into this setup a few times.

It's very intriguing.

I'd try it, maybe clamped, and then when its' too loud you can put mufflers on it.

Definately going to be using the clamps. I bought an extra set of the clamps and rings about a year ago when I first started looking into this.

One other thing I am going to have to do is put a reducer on the ends of the X pipe down to "3 so it will fit the FLP's.

Thats gonna be one sweet setup. I have personally heard that GM car at the fbody gathering and well it sounded sick. Theres another guy on the board that has boomtubes or is installing boomtubes on his LT1 and it looks mean as well, his screen name is Turnin LT4. Cant wait to hear that beast rumble.

Check out the third post, the pipe where the two come together and merge into one and exit on the one side is referred to as a boom tube.

But what does the actual boom tube do? Is it like a really low restriction muffler? Or is it like a huge borla tip?

That is a Nascar setup.

It's a big exhaust tip.

Nata, if you need 3.0 to 3.5 oval transitions you might want to talk to Spintech/ DrGas.

If you plan to streetdrive I think you need mufflers.

I already ordered the transitions from Dr. Gas.

Yeah I am going to have to agree with you about the mufflers for street driving. I can only image what the Db is going to be like without them.

Yep, in true NASCAR style! That will be a killer setup, but you'll need something else to pass the safety inspection with. The exhaust exit can't be under a window like that.
