Question How Do I Tell If My Water Pump Is Squeeking?

And not the power-steering pump or alternator. Idlers checked out o.k. Is there a way to spin the water pump by itself, at a higher speed, to tell if its the water pump bearing that is squeeking?

Do you have A/C? Pull that belt as well just to eliminate one more possible squeaker.

When mine was squeaking, it was only when it was cold from sitting overnight, so one morning before work I got outside 10 minutes early and took the belt off, I could tell right away when I turned the water pump pulley by hand, it was squeaking and didn't feel smooth when I spun it...so I put the belt on and drove it to work, picked up my new pump on the drive home, and changed it that night...

It could also be a belt tensioner or idler bearing...there are 4 of those (1 tensioner on each belt and 1 idler on each belt)...again with the belt off, if they feel anything less than smooth, they should probably be replaced.
