Default Open longtubes cause damage?

I've heard from a few people that running open longtube hookers is bad. Is it? Would I be better off waiting for a ORY/3in exhaust? Just stuck on what to do...I have the stock manifolds/ypipe/exhaust on now, and just bought used longtubes.

you'll need at least 12" or something like that of piping off the collector or the open air will **** with the o2 readings and your car will run like ****.

I think I remember Colonel telling me 20" off of the collectors. Thats what I plan to do for a while until I get my duals and X.

How long are you planning on running it open? If it's only a short distance, I had no problems driving my car with open headers to the exhaust shop.

I wouldnt say do this for over 10 or so miles, could defiantly screw with the PCM...Good Luck

I said 20" should be safe. I know I've used some that were about 18-22" and it worked fine. I haven't tested to see what would be the abosolute shortest that you could use but I'm sure that would vary depending on O2 sensor placement and engine design (CI and camshaft could effect this somewhat.)
