Just disconnect the trans, harness, lines, and remove the front radiator/ac set up, exhaust manifolds and pull her out. You can remove the intake to give some clearence and its not hard to remove those. Just becareful of the oil pressure sending unit.
I'll take mine out the top, it's not that hard, you get under the car to drop the headers, starter and unplug everything you can, lower the car back on the ground, unhook everything that's on the motor (wiring harness, etc) then pull the radiator, pull the intake, then hook up a plate in place of the valley cover like the qtp plate, or make your own.... or use a chain across the front and back of the motor, and be done with it.
It's simple to do out the top, I don't think for a minute that it's any quicker out the top vs the bottom... either way it probably takes about the same time, but in the long run it's less work to do it out the top for sure.
After doing it both ways on these cars.. I can speak from experience.

I done on my Ls2 Camaro using lift up and easy job....

I'll get pic's of my car up when it's back from the chassis shop, when I'm done, the motor/tranny will come out together out the top, and it might be possible to do it in 45 min, but that's a different deal, with everything that a street car has on it being gone.

I got it covered!
