Why doesn't the 2001+ LS1 have a 6500 rpm redline too?

For the very reasons already stated. The stock cam and heads on the LS1 do not merit a higher rev limit.

Here is a graph of my car way back in 05. It had full exhaust and the stock tune. This will let you see how the stock cam is done and power begins to taper off. Granted you want to shift past peak for best results, but 6200 is plenty high for the limiter til you add a cam and better valve-train.
