Porting LS6 Intake
Porting LS6 Intake So I'm trying to get my friend to port my intake for me when I finally put on the head and cam package that I will be buying. I was wondering what parts people clean up when they do it. I'm assuming the inlet, then what else? If people have some comparison pics it would amazing. Thanks guys!
Not much room for porting in the stock ls6 intake. you can smooth out the seams and get a little polishing of the runner ports, but don't expect any extra power from it.
Not everyone is a FAST fan. I've got nothing against them, but I decided to go the aluminum intake route. There are SEVERAL to choose from.. BBK's, GMPP's and Edelbrocks... Good luck hunting if you go that route.

is the fast worth the money if you already have a ls6 intake. i want one so bad but could never pull the trigger for the price tag. If i have a ls1 intake maybe it would be a little easyer to buy the fast.

Verdad Gallardo I dont think the fast intake is worth it unless your going heads and cam down the road or bigger engine etc etc. If your staying stock cubes, for a full bolt on car, the ls6 is just fine.
Just telling you theres no known gains from porting the LS6, so why waste the time. Im not on the fast bandwagon either and regardless of how good they are could never pull the trigger on the price tag either which is why I have a typhoon. Like posted above if i was about to dump cash into a heads/cam setup id go the extra mile and get an intake you could gain another 20 hp from a port job.
You can remove some but the material is really hard to work w/...some vendors sell a ported LS6 but they dont advertise any gains w/ it.
Yeah I'll be doing head and cam down the road, but I think for the time being, until I get $1800 spare dollars, I'll just spray it with a 100 shot. Thanks for the info guys!

I ported the mouth of my LS6 intake to match up to my 80mm TB and then opened up/smoothed out the throat as much as I could to match. I also worked over the ends of the runners where they meet up to the heads.
I used a dremel with sandpaper drums when removing material and was very careful. If you do it keep the drum moving back and forth and don't apply much pressure at all, let the tool do the work. After using the dremel to remove material I hand sanded everything with fairly coarse sandpaper to smooth it out, then again with finer sandpaper.
I did a bunch of other mods at the same time so I can't tell you if it made any difference or not but it probably didn't hurt.

i mean port it if you like but the ls6 in stock trim will support enough hp for u i'm sure. all porting will do is improve flow slightly at the top end(best case) there are better places to spend your time. like dyno tuning. or if u r real serious about unlocking potential you might have your heads worked over when u tear into the motor to do the cam package.(assuming u dont have the $$$ for new heads)
