Default Helicoil came out of oil drain plug hole

I was changing my oil this weekend and when I tightened down the bolt it seemed like it stripped out. So I pulled the bolt back out and the first ring of the helicoil came out with it. I pulled the rest of the coil out with the bolt when I tried again.

My question is can I buy the same size helicoil (12 X 1.75) and put it in? Will I have to redrill and retap the hole or can I just install then new one without all that?

You can buy a new plug at most auto parts stores. Is the plug bad or the oil pan?

It's the oil pan, not the bolt.

Oh. Well that really sucks. Try to retap it yet?

Haven't tried, the header is in the way. I'm going to try a new helicoil then I'm going to try a self-tapping oversized drain plug. If that doesn't work then the car goes into my parent's backyard barn and I'll buy a truck.
