I'm down to two possible mufflers for true duals, 1 chamber flowmasters and Hooker max flow's. I'd like to use the Max Flow's but they are rather large. L-14" W-10.25" H-4.75" while the flowmasters are very small L-6.25" W-9.75" H-4". The main thing that bothers me on the Max Flows is the height at almost 5". How big of mufflers have any of you run without major ground clearance problems?

Yeah, I wanted to use Max-Flows but the height deterred me (and trust me, every 1/8th" goes a long way).
Check out the Edelbrock RPM mufflers- they're pretty low in profile. 3 5/8" I think.

The only thing that worries me on the 1 chamber flowmasters is that they will be loud inside the car more so than outside the car. The Hooker Max Flows are quiet at idle, quiet at cruising rpms, but loud at WOT. Seems like I remember seeing Pro Stock John with some big mufflers under his car.

Thanks for the pics Jorday, your setup looks exactly like what I want to do
Using Offset/Center mufflers seems like the best way to keep the most ground clearance. I looked up the dimensions on your mufflers and they are only 4.5" thick while the Max Flows I want are 4.75"
I'm going to put my car on the ramp tomorrow though and measure the amount of room I have to work with. The clearance looks fine on your car for true duals with real mufflers.

I had bullets before the ultraflos and the noise level was insane. The vibration inside the car was pretty bad. They are low but the only time I have ever seen the mufflers hit the ground is on this nasty speed bump on my street. I have to use extreme caution when crossing. ![Icon Lol](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies2/icon_lol.gif)
I agree, the offset/center combination seems to work the best for this setup. Sorry about the wrong info on the size there. You can see the mufflers hanging down a bit if you are behind the car. My car is far from what I would call quiet with them, but they were a huge improvment over the bullets.

After mocking up a Hooker Maxflow muffler in cardboard I've given up the quest to use them for my true duals
They are larger than the mufflers Jorday posted in every direction and ground clearance would be a serious 2". Jorday's mufflers are just skinny enough to tuck up into the floor boards where there's a little room. The width of the Maxflows won't allow that and they're already another 1/4" thicker than Jorday's mufflers so you lose twice as much ground clearance. I've decided to go with the 1 chamber flowmasters since they are very small and can be tucked up for a lot of ground clearance.

You will need every .001" of clearance you can get even with the mufflers I am using.
btw...even though they are not shown in my pics, turndowns will make a noticeable difference in the level of interior noise.
