If you have to do shorties because of emissions then do what you have to do but to me its a waste. Yes your lm is kinda tame now because of stock manifolds but with mods it will sound like **** so enjoy the sound as is now.

I don't think you're going to find it too loud if you run headers, which will give you a good power boost. Especially if you're going to run with cats...

Depends on the setup. I had the original LM on my car with old 1-3/4 TTS headers that had conventional-sized cats (like, factory size), and ran that setup for about 7 years. It was loud but never that bad. I swapped to 1-7/8 ARH's which have bullet style cats this winter, and it took me 2 weeks of driving it to tire of it and decide to buy a Magnaflow. It was a bit louder, but worse than that droned far more noticeably with the new header setup.
