I wasn't trying to get you pissed off, quite the opposite. You're completely safe with removing those casting tabs as I did that back in 2002 to mine and ran it like that safely for 25-30k miles prior to getting a FAST intake. The intake is now on my buddy's car and is running fine as well. No issues with misfires or knock sensors. They are simply there to keep the bottom of the intake stationary while the top half is assembled onto the intake.

I think you're good to go either way, shave the ribs and keep LS1 coolant tubes, or get the LS6 tube and leave the ribs alone. It seems to be one of those six of one, half a dozen of the other things.

Mine were ground off back in 2003 and after 7 years and 200,000 + miles it has performed perfectly....you can remove them and use the LS1 coolant tubes or leave them on and use the LS6 block off plugs and LS6 front coolant tubes....I prefered to keep the LS1 coolant tubes for obvious reasons.

I just bought an ls6 intake. I am going to be ripping off the tabs as I would like to run the ls1 coolant lines. As someone else mentioned I do not want to risk the chance of overheating my #7 or 8 cylinder by going with the ls6 coolant plugs, even if that is a myth. I do not believe the tabs do anything on the intake and are safe to remove.
Good work... now slap that thing on your car and enjoy it.

well the intake is now destroyed since you had to grind on it. Tell ya what since I'm a nice guy if you went to send that to me I will dispose of it for you..
Na really that will work just fine, seen it done MANY times including on my car and have never even heard of any problem

The reason the ls6 intake may be louder than the ls1 is because the ls1 had some foam on the bottom of the intake that isn't there on the ls6. If it's an issue, put some dyna mat on the bottom of your intake if intake noise is troublesome to you. While you're at it, get rid of that aftermarket intake lid and go back to the factory intake with the silencer baffles in it.
Same thing with those noisy headers and don't get me started with cams and aftermarket springs. They make the car sound horrible.
Sorry, just on a rant.

LOL!! Those ridges don't do anything except pinch the knock sensor wires and give you problems. I will say, however, that my LS6 intake with the ridges removed is very noisy. Quite a bit more than my LS1 intake. I can hear every time a lifter moves in the block, and I can hear my cam going round and round. I never heard that with the LS1 intake. I think it must have something to do with the foam, and the ridges. Oh well. The intake fits perfectly and I didn't have to remove my LS1 coolent tube to do it, and I don't have to worry about pinched knock sensor wires!!

You want loud, get a FAST intake, but who cares if your intake is loud? It's a muscle car, not a mercedes.

I've had the cam in my car for 5 years, and the intake for less than one year. I get sick of people asking me what is wrong with my car because of the noise. Then I have to explain that it has a cam and blah blah blah.... you know. like the song on the radio? LOL!!
I just took the intake off, put some flame retardant foam under the intake, bolted it back on and started it up. I took before and after videos. The noise does drop some with the foam, but not much. I wouldn't worry about unless it really bugs you! Here are the vids..
