Default Starting problem, ignition delay

Well I am having my first problem with the car in a while.

Here's the deal. Turn key nothing happens, not even a click. Turn off, try to start again, turn key fully and after about a second delay the starter spins and the car starts right up. I shut it off several times immediately to see if it would happen again and it didn't.

Anyone have an idea of what this might be? Starter solenoid? Loose wire? Starter going bad?

I want to fix it before it leaves me somewhere stranded.

Does the security light stay illuminated.. There's a slim chance your vats key or cylinder might be getting worn.

Did all the other lights/indicators go off when you turned the key to start like usual? (Like if your radio was on, it goes off in "start' position.) If not, it sounds like the ignition switch.?

I believe they all went off with the key being turned forward.

I'll pay close attention the next time it happens.

You may also have a starter with a "dead spot".
When it stops in this spot it will not crack initially.
Did it click or make any sound?

You know, I thought about that. My 93' LT1 car had the same problem. It go worse and worse until finally I had to roll start it to get it home.

How can I check to be sure that's what it is?

Hey Speed Demon, I was searching for this problem and found your post. I had my clutch and hydraulics changed 2 weeks ago, and last week this problem appeared... It also appeared just after I lengthened the cruise control switch to reach the new clutch pedal location. It only happens 1st thing in the morning - turn the switch, everything dies, the radio clock and trip odometer resets. 2nd or 3rd attempt usually works. Doesn't happen other times during the day. Have you found anything out yet?

I also live in Raleigh area.
