Default What is this part

What is this part and what does it do? Its says Delphi 1997251 on it. It has a fuel line going to it and a connector then has a line going to the front of the intake by the TB. I noticed it making a loud ticking noise. Thanks for any help Pancho..........

Pics?

Not sounding familiar, but what your describing almost sounds like a fuel solenoid for nitrous. Almost sounds like the EGR valve. Are you sure it's a fuel line?

oops just looked. It runs right next to the fuel line and is wraped with that heat wrap along with the fuel line, it has a evap pressure valve on it.

What year and model car are we talking about here?

Driver's side, I'm thinking? The EGR valve is on the pass side attached to the front of the head and has a metal flex line running to the exhaust and to the intake on the top of the intake in back of the throttle body. It shouldn't make noise.

-=EDIT=-

Oh, wait a minute.. i know what you're talkin about. Gonna go check mine..

-=EDIT2=-
This one? It's an EVAP solenoid. You shouldn't hear anything out of it. If it's malfunctioning, you should see a check engine light out of it, but not sure.

That's it. Yea its been making noise. At first I thought it was the injectors making the ticking noise but if you put your hand on it you can feel it ticking. No check engine light. I may just replace it for piece of mind, can't cost to much. Thanks for your help.

Gotta find what controls it. Or there could be another issue. No prob do0d. The description you gave initially just threw me off. I just never really pain much attention to the little thing.

it is a purge solenoid. it is controlled by the ecu. it opens and closes the solenoid when the pressue builds up in the gas tank. there is a pump that puts pressure in that solenoid just releases. it is used to keep hydrocarbons down. some are noisey and some are quiet. so replacing it may not make it quiet. Yes if it is bad you will get a CEL. it part of the emissions.

^ Would a new gas cap help purge some tank pressure? Not sure if the caps seal the tank 100% or not.

The Ticking is normal, And the fuel tank is sealed with the gas cap.If it wasn't sealed it might set a code evap leak. It sounds like the system is working normal. Don't waste money.

Would this cause the fuel pump to lose pressure. I am losing pressure and when I wiggle mine it raises back up to 58 psi. It is ticking loudly, wheich it nevr use to before....

The EVAP system has 2 solenoids:
- purge solenoid: opens/closes/meters manifold vacuum to fuel tank.
- vent solenoid: opens/closes fuel tank vent to atmosphere.

If the vent is not allowing atmosphere in, then the fuel tank may be subjected to over-vacuum... if this is the case then this is working against the fuel pump and/or pressure regulator and may cause a loss of pressure.

By wiggling the purge solenoid you may be blocking off manifold vacuum from the tank, which allows the pump/regulator to work properly.
