What is this part
What is this part and what does it do? Its says Delphi 1997251 on it. It has a fuel line going to it and a connector then has a line going to the front of the intake by the TB. I noticed it making a loud ticking noise. Thanks for any help Pancho..........

What year and model car are we talking about here?
Driver's side, I'm thinking? The EGR valve is on the pass side attached to the front of the head and has a metal flex line running to the exhaust and to the intake on the top of the intake in back of the throttle body. It shouldn't make noise.
-=EDIT=-
Oh, wait a minute.. i know what you're talkin about. Gonna go check mine..
-=EDIT2=-
This one? It's an EVAP solenoid. You shouldn't hear anything out of it. If it's malfunctioning, you should see a check engine light out of it, but not sure.

That's it. Yea its been making noise. At first I thought it was the injectors making the ticking noise but if you put your hand on it you can feel it ticking. No check engine light. I may just replace it for piece of mind, can't cost to much. Thanks for your help.

it is a purge solenoid. it is controlled by the ecu. it opens and closes the solenoid when the pressue builds up in the gas tank. there is a pump that puts pressure in that solenoid just releases. it is used to keep hydrocarbons down. some are noisey and some are quiet. so replacing it may not make it quiet. Yes if it is bad you will get a CEL. it part of the emissions.

- purge solenoid: opens/closes/meters manifold vacuum to fuel tank.
- vent solenoid: opens/closes fuel tank vent to atmosphere.
If the vent is not allowing atmosphere in, then the fuel tank may be subjected to over-vacuum... if this is the case then this is working against the fuel pump and/or pressure regulator and may cause a loss of pressure.
By wiggling the purge solenoid you may be blocking off manifold vacuum from the tank, which allows the pump/regulator to work properly.
