How to mod poly motor and tranny mounts?

Default How to mod poly motor and tranny mounts?

Want to put in some poly tranny and motor mounts...going with prothane. My question is, how do I 'mod' the prothane poly mount? I know to grind down a bit on the bumps on the tranny mount, but what about the pre-load plate?

Are the motor mounts good to install straight from prothane? Or do they need any grinding or removal of plates?


Also, if you could, would you put poly motor and tranny mount in your DD?

It will make more vibrations in the car. It really isn't necessary unless you have a big cam that shakes the motor around with the stock mounts. I wouldn't waste the money unless they broke.

Would you reccomend JUST the motor mounts? I dont wanna do the motor mounts and have the tranny mount rip or break.

Neither mounts are broken, just wanna replace with the new headers.

I did the tranny, torque arm and motor mounts. I really dont notice that much vibration. I have the cutout open all the time too so maybe thats why. I would do the motor mounts while your in there, its a piece of cake with the headers out of the way. I had my tranny out at the same time so it was even easier. I did a mount each night, it wasnt bad.

DID anyone mod the mounts? I know there are a few opinion polls already. I may just do the motor mounts....

I didn't have to do anything but scrape a little of the old stock mount out of the clamshell.
No moding of the prothayne motor mounts to go in.
I did mine when I did headers also.

I've got the ES trans mount. No probs and bolts right in. I'm not even gonna entertain the thought of doing the engine mounts with either the engine or LT's IN the car. I've heard it's a nightmare.

I didnt mod the tranny mount or the torue arm bushing when i put mine in, just bolted it all together and have 0 problems. I run solid motor mounts though.

I was running Prothane mounts with a new GM transmission mount. Now 8 months later I'm about to switch them out to solid motor mounts and I'm still gonna keep my rubber tranny mount.
