Default Not Your Average Ported Throttle Body Thread

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently interested in getting a ported throttle body for my 2000 Z28 M6. I'm wondering where is the best place to buy a ported throttle body from? Obviously i'd like to order from a site sponsor if possible. I right now i'm aware of the Katech units, Ebay, and doing it myself. The problem with doing it myself is i'd like to retain my stock throttle body (no core return). I know many of you will probably think it's stupid, but i like to have my stock parts even if it's something relatively insignificant, such as a throttle body. With this in mind i'd like some recommendation as to where I could get a ported/polished LS1 throttle body with the bump stop mod, knife edged, etc. without having to exchange my stock tb for a core charge?

Thank you everyone.

Yes, i realize that there is some discussion as to whether or not a ported throttle body is effective on a bolt on car, this thread isn't about it's effectiveness or power gains... so please keep it out of this thread.

Well, considering things change from time to time, i wanted to know where currently* is the best place to buy a p&p throttle body from. I've tried to search on LS1tech but I find more threads about the gains or DIY's, then places to get them from that are site sponsors. Maybe i'm not using the search function correctly?

As i stated originally i'm aware of the Katech's (from what i've researched these don't have the bump stop mod), and aware of the Ebay one's. There's Jantzer and some other $40 charge company that offers these on Ebay. Again i researched these as well and some people had some hit or miss situations with Jantzer. I also realize there are members on this forum that p&p throttle bodies at home but again i don't want to send my stock tb in... Thanks everyone.

Get a used throttle body from the for sale section and use that as a core.

I have a stock ported throttle body if you are interested. It's just your "average ported throttle body" though... Knife edging can cause idle issues from not sealing properly.

Thank you everyone for the responses.

I'll look into new era and try to find myself a core.

Does New Era do the bump stop mod? I didn't see any mention of it on their site in the product description. Thanks again.

Its also a bad idea from a flow stand point. If you've ever worked on a flow bench you know that a sharp edge reduces flow!

That's why heads uses a clay radius and exhausts use flow pipes. Both pick up flow by about 20-30 CFM over a sharp edge.

Good to know

ZMG00camaross: I just looked at the Shaner units. Do you know what the difference is between the "s2" and the "s3"? Also do you have the s1, s2, or s3? Thanks!

i wouldnt worry about tryin to buy one w/ the bumpstop mod. just order a p&p one from wherever and do it yourself, it takes like two minutes to grind down the bumpstop. super easy
