Default What affect will running a one step colder plug have

What affect will running a plug one step colder on my 01 Z28 have? Currently I have 60,000 mile on it and I'm getting ready to change the plugs. The engine is essential stock (MTI airlid with k&N, 160 thermo) but the gears have been changed to 4.11 and the suspesnion has been redone with spohn parts. I was looking at the Irdium IT20 because I believe that is one step colder than the IT16 stock heat range. Currently like all LS1 I do have a slight ping under hard accelration that nothing seems to get rid of. I thought the colder plugs might help a little with that. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

If anything, one step colder will help you. I am running a "colder" plug in mine, and it does just fine N/A without the worry of pinging. Stock heat range for an LS1 is an NGK TR-55, I am running TR-6's with no ill effects gapped @ .045.

just make sure you are not running too rich a cooler plug could foul a lot easier..... but other than that I run TR6s gapped at .045 on my stroker.... a stock car, id go with the TR55.

The car has the stock tune on it so I don't think running rich is a problem. Thanks for all the feedback.

A cooler plug might help you, but also look into maybe using some GM top engine cleaner to clean carbon off your piston tops.

They won't hurt you. I've been running TR-6s NA for years with no problems. I like that they push the ragged edge of detonation up a smidge. That way I can run a little leaner (and leaner is meaner!) with a little more timing advance.
