How do I change the alternator pulley?

Default How do I change the alternator pulley?

I have been running crank pulley, and will be adding some electronic drain (1200 RMS amps, and HIDs on my fogs and low beams). I bought the new alternator pulley like a year ago, and I even have the belt (okay, 4 belts - what can I say, they were $1.49 each on amazon. I couldn't resist).

Anywho...
How do I change the actual pulley? I am afraid of sticking a screwdriver to stop the blades, I don't want bend or break any of them and they are pretty thin. What have you folks had to do?

stick a air socket on there and itll come right off

Impact gun @ 80psi gets it done.

Next you'll post that you don't have one, is there some other way, blah blah blah...

Impact gun takes about 1 second to get it off/on.

Otherwise you need to use an allenhead wrench and stick it in that hole on the front to keep it from turning and a wrench to get the actual nut off.

Have you considered that although the bigger pulley may produce more amps at idle you may be over-revving the alt at WOT conditions?

You assembled your engine with a pneumatic impact gun?

I suppose a lot of people that have an impact gun, staring at the alternator pulley nut, would have put 2 and 2 together...

I've got the small pulley on the engine, so I am technically under-revving the alternator at all times. This is to just bring it back to, or close to stock on the alternator.

Isn't there some sort of "overrun" clutch in the alternator? Or was i misinformed? I didn't know you could over-rev an alternator.
