Default Should I weld my y-pipe to my header?

I just installed a set of Pacesetter headers and y-pipe this weekend and it is leaking at the drivers side collector were the y-pipe slides over. I had to get the y-pipe stretched a little because it wouldn't slide over the collector. The guy stretched it a little too much. Is there anything that I can do besides welding it. I have a band clamp on there now. I had a u-bolt clamp on there first. Nothing seems to work. I didn't want to weld it incase I have to take anything off I didn't want to have to pull the header off too. Also the smell inside the car is terrible. It gives me a head ache everytime I drive the car. How bad does a leak like that hurt performance?

Also DAMN the headers made the car a LOT louder. It sounds like a race car when it is floored. Anyway does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thanks.

Brandon

I wrap the connection with tin foil then use the band clamp.I would never weld it up.Another option is to weld on flanges and bolt the Y to the headers.

dont weld it!!! you will never be able to work on your trany or million other things you will need to drop your exhaust for with out having to have it cut off.. get different flanges or collector put on.

Home Depot, Lowes, etc, all sell foil tape used in the HVAC industry, wrap connection 3 times with this, then put clamp over the top, it won't leak, it won't burn off...

Don't weld it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy my new X pipe setup for sale in the parts for sale. Pcaesetter's Y pipe is a total POS. If you're dead set on the Y pipe, use band clamps.

I cut the y-pipe apart and reworked it so it doesn't suck so much.

Thank you!! That is the answer I was looking for.

I think that will solve the problem.

I just finished and it seemed to work just fine. Thanks again for the suggestion.
