Default SLP lid vs customizing stock lid. UPDATE and quick question

So I already did the installuniversity FRA mod. So next on my list is a SLP lid. Then I read something where you could cut out the baffles or whatever it is inside the stock lid. Also, if I did this is there anyway to get rid of the air silencer box? Trying to save some money, but I feel like I am just being a cheap a$$. Is this worth doing or should I just buy the lid?

Second, where is the cheapest place to buy a SLP lid. I see that ws6store has them for like $90. Be great to find a place with USPS shipping instead of UPS/FedEX, since its usually cheaper.
If ya haven't noticed I am on a budget from hell.

Try and find a used SLP lid, the newer ones are cheaper made and thinner, IMHO.

go on ebay, search for LS1 lid. You should find an LS1 motorsports lid or similar for around 40-60. A lid is a lid when you are on a budget. Dont pick and choose.

that sucks

This is true. If I am using a paper filter is there a particular one to stay away from. I read where the SLP lids don't fit very well with KN filter, but I will never use one so that doesn't matter.

The "fitment" issues that everyone experiences vary. I have an MTI lid and even without the filter, its a tight seal to the airbox. So its hit and miss.

is your MTI lid clear? If so, does it look good on the car. Its kinda hard to tell if I would like one without seeing it in person. However, being budget minded I shouldn't really care what color or clear or not.

Another question; if I buy a lid for a 2000-2002 can I just block off the air hose hole thats in the lid? Or whatever the extra hole is for?

I remember along time ago (est 2002-2003) I took my stock lid off and broke the fins out and then sanded it smooth. I took it to the track and ran the same times as I did with my slp lid. The aftermarket lids look better because they dont have the silencer box.

Yeah I really hate the way the silencer box looks. I will probably just ditch the fins and sand it down, cause I am strapped for T/A parts cash right now.

Well I pulled the fins out of the stock lid(airbox). Sanded it down and all that.
If somebody is on a budget and they do the FRA mod and break the fins out of their lid and smooth it down they will notice a difference. Or atleast I swear I did.

OK got all my tuning up done on my car. Got a little extra money and I get to buy a real lid.
I am looking for the cheapest place to buy a new lid. Anybody got a sale going on/free shipping, something to that nature?
Please give me a link as I am ready to purchase.
