Default what are typical HP/TQ gains from no cats?

if at all?
I am trying to go to a true dual setup, but I am unsure of the gains from
de-catting.
It would be nice to still be street legal, but if there are some serious gains that people have seen, then the cats certainly go.

thanks

I don't concern myself with being emissions legal, because in most states the emissions system is very easy to beat. Some states/areas don't even have testing. And if you're worried about federal law, then don't, because running true duals period (on a car that didn't come with it stock), or any aftermarket exhaust system with larger piping or different muffler design is equally illegal. Nobody cares though, 10s of thousands of people do it.

I would ditch the cats. You'll probably gain 5hp/5tq on a mostly stock motor, but the sound improvement is worth it.

With HCI cars and dual 3 inch cats you normally see anywhere from 18-24RWHP difference with the ORY in place.

Is it really?? I've been kicking around getting rid of my 3" carsound cat's and LM and going with and ORY and Hooker Catback. You really think I'd gain a good 18-24RWHP??

Thanks
Joe

a good reason to live in the bluegrass state your exaust note will become much deeper, makes it more intimidating.

The example below is the difference I saw between exhaust going through cats and a hooker Aeromax muffler vrs dual electric cut outs just before the cats (Open headers with a little extra piping)..

SOTP on a car with just a lid and cut-out (mine) is minimal to none.

The sound difference through the cut-out and especially through the stock exhaust is fantastic.

Wow, every time I seriously consider something for my car, someone starts a thread that asks the EXACT question. LOL.

What would the differance be on a car running LT's and true duals w/x-pipe. Stock replacement cats vs no cats.

Also, it will make the car louder, right?

I have an x-pipe true dual setup on my car where i have the option to swap in cats or off-road pipes. Just something to consider.

Lynda, what exactly is that setup? That sounds very interesting to me.

Specifically, how dramatic is the sound differance when you swap the cats in and out?

More importantly, have you dyno'd both ways (with/without cats)?

no i have not dynoed with and without cats, but they are the Carsound cats and from what i understand they are one of the best cats to get. Sorry, I dont dyno much, I'm too busy going to the track

As far as the sound difference...hmmm, to be honest I never really paid attention. I use the cats for daily driving and the off-road pipes when i go to the track. Either way wheather you have the cats in or not, it sounds much better than when I had the raspy MAC y-pipe on it. Sorry I couldnt be of better help in the sound department

I hear that! Over 75 passes in this car and I haven't dyno'd it once.

Lynda, that's okay... I looked into it at speedinc and it's a little out of my price range right now.

I'm a lot more interested about the sound differance. Does anyone have a good understanding of that?

Yes, I'm sure EVERYONE has a good understanding of that, but how exactly does one describe/relay a sound difference over the internet?
And sorry for getting away from your focus on sound but while it is important most people are still more interested in performance gains than just sound changes with something like this.

No, I'm sorry. I'll start another thread to deal with the sound specifically.
