heads/cam combo
I have a 2000 trans am, I'm wanting to get around 450 horses out of it. I was just wondering what kind of heads and cam you guys/girls could recommend for me. I was looking at getting 5.3 heads, or should I stay with the stock heads and have them ported and etc... and also a good cam to match the heads that i will be getting. I don't really want to buy a set of afr's or darts. Any info is helpful. Thanks

I'd talk to one of the sponsors to help put a package together WITH you.
Matt and Jason from Texas Speed have done great by me for customer service so I would recommend them personally.
I am currently installing their 5.3L heads on my small cam and am hoping for north of 400rwhp. I'm sure your goal of 450rwhp is easily attained with a properly matched cam/head combo from them.

I agree with fatmat80 and janaka. I'm really happy with the heads and cam I got from TSP.
I'm not saying that because they are one of the vendors on here either, I got my stuff from them before I knew about this website. They were friendly, knew what they were talking about and answered all of my dumb questions ... shipped my parts fast too.

Try upgrading to LS3 ported. You will need a LS2 conversion kit, and your current manifold/tb will not work, due to the square ports. Cathedral Ports on LS1's. It may be a little more than what you're wanting to spend, but just an option. 400+hp is easily attainable with those style heads. Add a cam, you're looking an easy 420+hp with a proper tune. Just my 2 lincolns.
