Default Not happy with my current catback & headers.. need advice

I am not happy with how my car sounds after my headers and o/r y went on.. Its the flowmaster 80 catback.. here is a clip..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtLTd3SKibc

I was thinking of going back to slp or magnaflow.. not really wanting to spend over 450 for a catback... any suggestions?

What are you looking for sound wise? You are probably aware that the flowmaster catback is one of the worst flowing on fbodies...

So, would you prefer loud all the time? Or quiet all the time except at WOT! If you don't mind rasp and want loud, go SLP, but if you can't stand that, go magnaflow, or possibly hooker?

I don't mind loud. I'd like to get something thats a lot better flowing.. cause I know the flowmaster isn't the worse catback for that...

I've got a Magnaflow muffler with both rear exit pipes welded on. There are no tips, and it is a 2.75 inch inlet with dual 2.5 inch outlets sitting in my garage. been there for about 3 months. If you want it, I'll take a hundred bucks obo. Just to let you know. I had it on my car with the exact same headers and y pipe and it sounded pretty damn good I was just ready for a change so I went with a 3inch powerstick.

SLP LM2, less rasp than the LM1, loud when driving hard and especially at WOT, yet plenty quiet enough for highway driving.

I realize this is totally off of what you're wanting to do, but just give it a look see.

Texas Speed true duals are relatively cheap. I think less than 500.00. And you can choose the muffler type. Duals will flow well, and give you that deeper sound. Powersticks or Stainless Works chambered mufflers will sound very good.

I would consider a trual dual set up... I seen the Texas Speed Rumbler X True Duals for 429.. where did you purchase the powerstick at?

I got my powerstick from classic chambered. Cost me about $80-90. Took it to a shop and had them install it in the stock location with a 3 inch dump like a v6 car. I love it. Deep, rich sound, loud when you want it and tame enough to daily drive. Plus you can't see the exhaust so it has that nice hidden look. I love mine

i've been listening to some sound clips of other LT's and o/r y clips and my exhaust sounds nothing like any of them.......... is the muffler the main reason why it sounds the way it does?

More than likely. The way the 80 series flowmaster is made really makes these cars with longtubes sound odd. Not real sure why but they do.

Flowmasters make a lot of cars sound weird...for the most part, they belong on farm trucks.

That engine doesn't sound too healthy on start-up, though...

When you put you long tubes on did you make sure that you reconnected you coil packs and make sure that all of the spark plug boots clicked twice? That could be why it sounds funny on start up. And I agree with Element, flows sounded great on my old farm truck, but not too good on anything else.

I had the same catback on my LT1 and I didn't like the way it sounded after LTs and !CATs. I installed a dynomax bullet muffler inline on the I-pipe and it completely got rid of the annoying resonances that I disliked. I realize the LT1 sounds different than LS1, but yours sounds a lot like mine did before I put the "bullet" on. It might be worth a try before you spend $$$ on another cat-back. I REALLY, REALLY liked my dynomax bullet + Flowmaster combination.

Here's is a MAJOR key in getting rid of all your rasp...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-Y300350

The pacesetter merge on their Ypipe is junk, along with almost everybody elses factory made merges. The flowmaster merge is a night/day difference on rasp, and it helps in the HP department too.

You're next step would be getting rid of the Blowmaster. Those style mufflers sound horrible without cats. Look into the Hooker catback. It's only about $350 shipped to the door, flows great, has a 3 bolt flange @ the rear so you can drop the entire rear section when you wanna go racing, and it's one of the cheapest catbacks on the market. I think there's a sponsor running a sale on it.
