Default Direct Flow Air-Lid

I always wondered what the lid on my car was and today I found a thread with info... Rob Raymer or a group he worked for made it. Supposedly one of the best ever? Just wondering how it differs (Damian said it was the best). I found a picture and it looks just like mine:

Reason I ask is I had thoughts of selling it and getting one of the larger ones. Maybe no gain?

Yes, that is indeed the Direct-Flo Airlid that I designed back in 1999. I spent a lot of time designing/testing it so that it would flow as much as possible. The main difference over other lids, is actually the most obvious....the curved design at the rear of the lid which "Directs the Flow" smoothly to the MAF. Another difference is the stronger, thicker ABS plastic we used.

From 1999 - 2004, we sold 39,999 of them. I kept the last one ever made for myself (#40,000).

Thanks for the post. It still makes me smile everytime I see one.

Rob why did you use stronger, thicker abs plastic? Under load I would expect it to possibly be more willing to crack than others due to that? My FTP 98mm lid is pretty bendable.

I have a question now that I have the man here. Like I stated it was on the car. What is involved in putting it on? I'm pretty sure it is done right but wanted to check if anything under it needs cut? I don't know the opening size but would the 100mm units show a gain? Fit and finish are real nice and it is real sturdy

As long as all 4 tabs along the back are in each slot, the front lip of the airlid is behind the front edge of the base, and the clips are locked down, you're all good.

I have 219,000 + miles on a LS1 Motorsports lid and it is still working fine. After I welded in the subframe connectors the lid was my second mod. I would love to find another one.

Guess I got lucky. I took out the second baffles in the WS-6 hood and from what I can see with the hood closed that plastic piece at the bottom should channel it all up to the filter and in. I had thought about taking out the second baffles but then thought what if it rained.
