Best exhaust sound
I have 99 T/A with the flowmaster direct replacement for the stock muffler . What is a decent replacement that has more rumble than the flowmaster that is on there without being extremly over bearing ? Any suggestions ?
I've been searching for this as well. My preference steers towards the "boat in the water" sound that you usually get from a mustang. LS motors tend to sound like something out of nascar, harsh and metallic. I have heard a few GTO's that sounded really good though.
My vote goes for GMMG. For just a cat back I couldnt love it more. Its a chambered exhaust and gives an amazing exhaust tone. But check out ls1sounds.com and like they said, whatever works for you.

I do like the clean sound of the Fords for sure, but the sound an LS engine makes is just so nasty it's hard not to love.
I tested this muffler I had laying in my garage before I pulled the motor...

It depends on your mods. Almost every mod can change your exhaust note.
LS1sounds.com is a great place to start but the best thing you can do is get together with others in your area and listen to their cars.
IMO there is one reason people (including me) like the sound of GT's. It's because:
1. it's a True Dual set-up (which you CANNOT beat for sound).
2. it's an H-pipe.
I chose a True Dual H-pipe set-up with high flow cats and 10 series flowmasters because I LOVE the way it sounds.
Some will say that you get "more HP" with an X-pipe and they are right. But the sound is completely different. I chose a better exhaust note over 2-3 extra HP.
I will say though, that the flowmaster's I have with my set-up have a Nasty drone between 1.9k and 2.2k rpm. Which is between 66 and 73 mph.
If you choose to go the TD route just look around. I bet you can find someone within an hours drive that can fab up a good TD system.
Hope I helped.
