LQ4 or LQ9 how do you tell

Default LQ4 or LQ9 how do you tell

LQ4 or LQ9 how do you tell the diff if you dont know what it came out of
or the heads off ??

it would apear to be a 03 as it has a return line
also has 317 heads

the part # on the back of the block is the motor out or still intact w/ trans?

definitely verify with the number on the block if you can, the only other way is to pull the heads and look for dished pistons. You can also insert a coat hanger or borescope into a spark plug hole and "feel" the pistons.

I got an LQ4 when I paid for a LQ9, definitely sucks to find out you were running 8.5:1 compression (thick graphite gaskets) on a cammed 6.0 LOL

there is no pn#. Only way to tell on mine was to first look at the top of the piston with a small light. You want to see a flat top, no dish. You can also scrap a piece of plastic zip tie across the top of the piston to FEEL no dish.
The other way to know for sure without removing the heads is to remove the oil pan and look for full floating pistons.
