I thought those Volant intakes had blue filters or did you slap some other filters on?

I've had Both on my Car, BlackWing Lid Is now on my Brothers 02 ws6. I currently have SLP On my car. I didnt like the caped off Air fitting on the Blackwing on my 98.
IMO Blackwing is slightly better fitting, But for the Price difference SLP is the way to go.

Those are the Volant filters. The color of the filter is given by the oil you use after you clean them. I bought the KN cleaning kit that comes with red oil, hence the color.

Gm tech dynoed six lids against eachother on a car, then ran them all at the track. The wisper lid was in a top spot with the best for mph at the track was the old t.s.p lid. I had a whisper lid it fit great and after the dyno gm tech did i was happy when i saw how it stacked up against the others. The slp lid was a little behind the whisper but still better then some.

There all going to be about the same, I doubt you'll ever win/lose a race because you have brand X, instead of brand Z lid. The reason I went with the SLP lid is because of what it's made of, if it was made from hard plastic I wouldn't of bought it.
IMO, get the one you want and don't worry about!

I've been trying to find some discussion about the K&N FIPK. My car has a mild h/c setup and makes 430/407 rwhp/rwtq, with the above K&N intake setup that was on the car when I bought it. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to go back to a stock-style setup with a lid and chris1313 ram air.

What do you guys think?

I had a SLP lid but went with K&N FIPK. The SLP lid came with a little weather strip that came right off with in a week and seem like dirt would come up threw the back of the lid. Thats why I went with K&N FIPK everything is sealed. I like it a lot better. Its all user preference though I guess. +1 for K&N FIPK IMO

I have the Fast Toys 98mm lid but it does rub the hood just a little. Great lid though.

This is a great thread. Im in the process of needing a lid for my build so I'm listening in to what everybody say. Have anybody went from a slp lid to a FTP lid? If so could you tell any difference?

FTP is good when using larger TB's / MAFs. The quality is slightly better than an SLP which IMO are junk....mine broke really quick. My FTP lid also rubs the hood on my WS6 a little. Best one hands down is the black wing....OEM quality but they can be expensive to find a good one.

I have the FTP 98mm lid, i like it cause my GM 85mm MAF slides right into it, and gives a pretty strait shot to my 92/92 setup

I used my SLP with a 4" tube and (2) 4" couplers when I was speed density. The OD of the lid is a full 4". I saw no reason to go with a FTP.

IMO, they're all sub-standard (too flexible or brittle). There's plenty of room for improvement. I've ran several (abs) plastic lids and they all cracked within 1.5yrs, and have had 2 SLP lids first one lasted about 7yrs and I'm still using the 2nd one. The slp lids need the rear tabs reinforced in some form or another since they bend down over time. Id also have to agree the Blackwing/SLP lid is the best quality except now the rubber boot on many is in need of replacement. So the Blackwing lid is worth next to nothing without a good boot.

ftp is no power over a SLP
the 104 and 98 have the same neck even, measure it.
bigger inlet flange dose no mean it make more power.

Quick Reply: which air lid makes most power?best fit
