Default Heat sheilds and MSD wires

Did my first plug and wire change on my LS1 Z28. Wasn't to bad but did cut my arms on the heat sheilds under the car trying to get to the #8 plug. My question is the way the MSD wires go into the stock heat sheilds for the plugs. Did anyone trim the sheilds a little or did you just stuff the boot into the sheild? It seems like I couldn't get the boots onto the plugs without trimming the sheilds a little. I finished the drivers side first then started the car to make sure everything was fine. Then did the first 3 plugs and wires on the passenger side. Fired up the car and it sounded fine. It was getting late and saved #8 for this afternoon when I got home from work. Again started the car and its seems fine. Haven't driven it yet because its still on the stands. It just seemed like the boots didn't go on all the way. I didn't feel or hear a 'click' (are you supposed to?) and was a little concerned. But it sounded fine everytime I started it. I'm I being paranoid? Thanks.

I don't have heat shields on my msd wires. No reason to, they should be longer and thicker to withstand the heat, even with my mods I don't have heat shields on the wires if that tells you anything about heat.

I didn't put them on my MSD's either. I'm also running 1 7/8" headers and haven't noticed any melting on the boots

I picked up heat shield sleeves and put my wires through it. Im a turbo car and my turbo headers commonly melt wires, even MSDs. They were heat shield brand, cost about $50.

I wont be using MSDs again because of the fact that they dont click.

I passed on using the GM heat shields on my MSD's. No troubles so far. Wouldn't mind getting the above mentioned type of heat shield though.
