My build material cost right now is $0. We has a 3.5" 1/4 thick pipe.(3.5" is a hair bigger then 90mm.) And plenty of 1/4" plate. Going to start on it tonight after work.

So you know you HAVE to have a throttle position sensor right?

Hey I'm not saying it can't be done ,I'm just sayin I have never heard someone making there own, like someone said get a chunk of aluminum and a cnc mill and go to town, hey there are a lot of things I have seen that I thought could not be done, just because a few people doubt you doesn't mean anything,if you think you have the skills and know how to pull it off hey you got my support,

You guys kill me. So someone wants to try something new/different and everyone goes for his throat. People build headers, dual exhaust setups and sheet metal intakes in their own garages/shops every day. Which I believe is ten times more complicated than building a TB, when you consider exhaust flow, savaging, wave theory, ect…I know for a fact that not every car enthusiast has an engineering degree. I don’t remember the OP saying he was going to create the greatest, fastest hotrod using his one of a kind TB. So everyone take a chill pill and let’s see how his project turns out.

OP make sure you take plenty of pic’s along the way and good luck in your build.

The parts are coming togather. The stock rod and cam are going to work perfectly. I will post pics of my progress tonight when I get home.

I think, honestly, by the time you get the aluminum (or parts), the mill (rental or borrow), buts, fasteners, a rod or something for the center of the TB, the plate for the TB not to mention any other items, it will prolly be $150 or so. Sometimes making it yourself isn't the cheapest option. I've been down that rout a couple times with a couple items not car related (computer stuff.)

And take up the argument of "A cutout is just a TB" argument with Tony Mamo. See how far that goes.

I will argue the fact with anyone and I highely doubt anyone with a brain that steps back will actualy argue with me much. The only reason would be to push there sales pitch on why to buy theres and put $140 profit on a $150 TB.

Who said I was building this out of aluminum? I have a tig torch but havn't played with it much and don't have access to aluminum like I do steel. It will weigh a bit more but 2 lbs means I just need to take a **** before a race and I am back to zero.

Holly ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It almost looks like a TB.

The butterfly is being cut at a machine shop and if they charge me it will possibly be the only cost.(I don't think they will but a $10 dollar tip if they don't). I know the tube is a bit heavy material but it is free and works perfectly. 3.5"(almost exactly 90mm) and that is virtually the same size as the intake opening(intake is slightly larger) and the outside is 4" so it matches all the other parts of the intake.

I used the end of a 20mm socket to help support the spring and a small part of a 23mm socket will be the pedestal for the TPS. I need to trim it to proper length and weld ears on it to drill and tap them to fasten the TPS. I still need to make a 0 and 100% throttle stop and like I said I will incorporate an idle screw into the 0% stop just like the factory has. Lastly I need to cut and drill a plate to mount and seal it to the intake. I have around 30 minutes or less into it and maybe another 30-60 min to finish. Obviously I need to clean up the ends of the tube and maybe shorten it just to save some weight, I think I can take .5 inches off of each end. I just wanted to make sure the butterfly didn't stick out past the TB.

Lip? 3.5" butterfly in a 3.5" hole is sealed. There isn't a lip in the stock body and wouldn't think anyone would put a lip in the TB.

It's a race truck, there's no reason to worry about a perfect seal nor does a factory car use a perfect seal (it has to be open a little to idle).

Depending on the setup the idle may be a little high, but on a race car that doesn't matter at all.

All this thing matters is when the TB is wide open... really people this isn't that big of a deal (coming from an engineer).

Most of the engineering in these things is for driveability/idle for a throttle body which he mentioned is no big deal. All it cares about is WOT.

Oh ok so you are saying its going to idle and drive like ****. Gotcha, I would agree. If that was stated up front my response would have been different. I thought he was going for an all-around "stock" idling and driving TB. My mistake

It should idle just fine. It certainly will drive perfectly normal just like any other TB.
