Whining Sound i have a very loud whining sound coming from the drivers side under the hood when the car is running on my '99 trans am. ive been told its the air/smog pump. they said its natural for it to make some sound...but mine u can hear like a block away. so obviously this isnt right. any ideas/tips to remedy this? thx in advance.

Sounds exactly like the AIR/SMOG pump, I had the same thing. Kinda sounds like a turbo spooling up haha, get the pump turned off using LS1edit blah blah blah and it will go away. Its nothing to worry about.

Just get a "Mechanics Stethascope" and find it yourself. It is usually really easy to find the offending accessory. My A/C Comp. was starting to go out and made all kinds of noise. Guess what? 30 seconds later I knew what it was!
