Question Took off steering shaft... Something aint right. HELP!!

Yesterday I installed a set of Pacesetters. I had to take the steering shaft out to get the driver side header in. We put everything back together and i drove the car.

PROBLEM:
The steering wheel has all kinds of slack in it now. Feels like total crap. I am sure i did something wrong but its snowing here and the ground is like crap. I live in an apartment so i dont have a garage/shop. Going to have to wait a couple of day to get to a buddies and look at it.

Just wanted to know if someone had any ideas on what it could possibly be.

Thanks ahead of time guys!!

At least have a buddy saw the wheel back& forth to make sure nothing is dangerously loose.
Maybe you can "see" what the problem is then.

man i have the EXACT SAME problem, i put in the pacesetters, took off the steering arm, i've tighted all the bolts, but it still wiggles around a bit, i've had a few friends look at it, couldnt fix it, so now i'm probably going to take it over to firestone or some other automotive place and let them look at it/fix it for me....anybody have any idea how to fix this problem?

I don't think you have the shaft all the way on the rack. It can be a bitch to get back on all the way. You could have a dangerous situation there.

You guys sure you have the steering knuckle/arm on all the way? It slides down pretty far from what I can remember. I have taken it off several times and its ok still. Just take it off again and make sure you have it on right.

I guess ill take it by goodyear automotive in the morning. Would they be able to fix it.... i mean do they do that kind of stuff?? Like I said above i live in an apartment and dont have anywhere to work on it myself and that shaft is not the easiest thing to get to without the car being in the air (or at least on jack stands)

Tighten the lower shaft bolt really tight to get rid of the slack. You can't tighten it with a wrench, use a 7/16" socket, extension and a good sized ratchet or breaker bar. I'd just tighten it until the slack goes away and maybe just a tad more.
