Default coolant crossover pipes

ok please someone explain them to me. no matter how much i read i still dont understand why some cars need them and some dont. all that i do know is that on my 98 ls1, if i swap to an ls6 or any fast intake, i need to pay an additioonal fifty bucks for those pipes. But like a 2001 ls1 with an ls6 intake doesnt need them if they were to swap to a fast. please explain

The other intakes are larger on the bottom so they dont have room for the coolant crossover on the 98-2000 LS1s. On the LS6 you can knock or grind the tabs off and tey will work fine but some people dont like doing that. Not sure about the fast as i dont have one..

Early LS vehicles cam with a 4 corner system. Later LS vehicles have a crossover in the front only and block offs in the rear.

Crossovers in the front are there because these engine always have large air pockets in the heads(if you dont have a crossover), these crossovers ensure there are no air pockets.

You can not run your original crossover becasue FAST used all the room they could to make power, that means you have to have a newer front side only crossover and block offs in the rear.

Take 5 minutes and chisel the tabs off the LS6 intake and save yourself 50 bucks. Very common.

Can't speak for the FAST, as I don't own one.

seems like that would be the best setup for getting every last bit of air out of the systym, dont some motors have problems with #7 or #8 overheating cause of air pockets?

You can do it, but you have to "T" it into something or the air could stay in the head and crossover with nowhere to bleed.

Im not a fluid dynamics person, it may simply flow through on the back side with the way hes showing and do exactly what you want it to

Thumbs up

Thats exactly what I did, use two front tubes, one in front, one in rear, run rubber line from rear and T into front, works fine.

I think the lines over the top you refer to mite be the fuel rail.I have a fast 92 intake and carefully tapped the stock ls1 coolant lines down to fit the fast intake.use a piece of soft wood and a plastic hammer.or buy 2 ls6 front coolant lines from TSP like Cajunhawk did, probably a safer way of doing it.

even if you could fit the LS1 coolant crossover under the fast it is not recommended, cause all the heat will transfer through the thin bottom FAST intake and heat up your intake charge...loosing power and upping the chance for detonation.

the fast intake is thicker then the stock GM intake ,but that is a great thought to consider.the ls6 cross over at front and back is the best to do.

the FAST intake does not have the reinforcements ribs that the LS1/6 intakes have and uses different materials. there are threads all the time here on how the fast floor gets warped, IMHO, i would want to keep as much heat away form the intake floor as possible, just my opinion though, everyone has their own.

x3. Pretty simple, really. Did mine when I installed an LS6 Intake and LS6 Valley Cover.

Im talking about that pipe next to the transmission dipstick. It goes across the intake then down both sides. Is that a coolant or fuel related part

a rear coolant crossover tube is probably the easiest.....but i didn't buy any crossover tubes for my '98.....i still have my factory ones, and have put 6,000 trouble free miles on since upgrading to LS6......when you take your LS1 intake off, you will see the coolant tube laid out in an H pattern.......just take a hammer and lightly tap it down close to the edges in the 4 places where it plugs in to the block.....also, there will be two green clips that hold the wires to your knock sensors....break them off.....chisel the bottom of your new intake to match this one......the throttle body side is to the left.....make sure you torque the intake bolts down to the proper spec....(89 INCH lbs. if i remember right)
