Default MAP Sensor/Vacuum Fitting

I asked this in another thread, but thought it better to create my own instead of hijacking someone's thread.

The large plastic "fitting" that goes in the back of the intake...the one the MAP sensor sets in and the brake booster line and a/c lines attach to. This is a large round fitting that cannot be removed without damage by my understanding. However, mine spins around if you twist it. That cannot be a good seal. How normal is this and should I address it?

Thanks.

I read somewhere on here that you have to get to that plug thru the throttle body hole. I think it can be removed with a special tool that reaches to the back of the intake. Maybe there are some tabs that hold it in? Anyway, mine spins too but there must be a seal on it because it doesn't leak.

Can you pull the fitting out? If not dont worry about it. Theres a large O-ring sealing the fitting and it wont unseal unless it's pulled free

There are tabs on the inside, only accessible through the manifold. All you'd need is a long piece of thinwall tubing with the right ID to shove over and depress the tabs. If I had a manifold laying around...

if it did start leaking i think i would try applying some clear silicone around joint before i risked breaking something trying to remove it

there is no straight shot with a piece of pipe to get to those tabs.....there are 3 support braces in the middle of the manifold that get in the way.....ask me how i know

Wow. So why does mine spin if it's supposed to be indexed like that? And I also read in a thread where someone else's spun. I did a lot of searching and couldn't come up with any answers to if this would leak. Now I see this and wonder why mine spins. That really has me concerned.

You are right sjsingle1, you can't access a straight shot through the throttle body opening. The floor braces are in the way. Those were put there to prevent objectionable noise believe it or not, and it's possible there are early manifolds without them. But not any LS6 manifolds.
