Exclamation Losing power at 2500 RPM

I've been having trouble with my 00 LS1. Have noticed that when I am accelerating and I get to about 2400/2500 RPM (with my foot on the gas at the same level) I hit a dead spot. I lose some power and then when I hit about 3000 RPMs I get thrown back into my seat. Its a very annoying and inconsistent acceleration, compared to the normal powerband from 2k-5.5k.

Last night I changed 2 of my o2 sensor (both on the passengers side). The two on the drivers side are stuck in their holes and may have to be broken/cut out and then new port holes be welded (I hope this is not the case but that is what its looking like). I have yet to drive a full 60 miles or so but definitely am still having the same problem. This may or may not change after the computer starts getting better readings.

Has anyone had the same problem with losing power in the 2.5k RPM range?

I also changed my fuel filter a month ago, that didn’t fix the problem either.

My next step is looking like the fuel pump or crankshaft sensor.. anyone have any other suggestions about the RPM problem or the o2 sensors being stuck?

Did that before I bought the o2 Sensors.. two of them were bad. Those were the only codes in there. One on each side. So I decided to just replace all 4 cuz the car has 150k.

Problem is that I was only able to install/ replace 2 of the 4. So basicly one of the two o2 sensors on the drivers side is still bad. I am not sure when I'm going to be able to change the two driver side o2 sensors because it will most likely require breaking/cutting/welding

On the way into work this morning the SES light came on, about 100 miles after o2 sensor change. I was on the highway when cruising in 6th when it popped on. Got of the Turnpike and car can barely accelerate especially under 3000 RPM. Haven’t checked the code yet but I’m assuming that its one of the two new o2 sensors and that the Catalytic Converters are probably bad. Has anyone had their stock Cats go back on them? Is this what happens? Help please..

2 of the same code.. P1153 Bank 2 Sensor 1

Let me clarify; I was reading 2 different o2 sensor codes a couple weeks ago so instead of figuring out which 2 were actually bad, I went ahead and bought 4 new ones because they all have 150k on them. I was only able to change the passenger side sensors (Not sure which Bank that is but would like some help with that). Now after the 2 were changed I’m getting the P1153 code.

Can someone please tell me which side that code is coming from?

I’m leaning towards this being a problem with the Catalytic converters, maybe clogged or something.. Help please..

I had a bad cat and o2 and never causes the car to loose power, just SES light comes on and prob running rich.. But not lack Of power...
Idk, but it could be your knock sensor going bad.. Anytime sensor sence a knock it will retard the engine and causes it to loose power even if your smashing it..??

knock sensor? is that the same as the crank position sensor? would the knock sensor also throw a code??

the loss of power seems to be the worse during light acceleration under 3000RPM.. after 3k and 1/2-WOT seems to have more consistent power.

Thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated. Really want to get my bird running like she used to.

just went through this same thing. my car would run perfect in open loop but as soon as it went into closed loop it would pull so much fuel it would start missing and sound like it had a massive cam and severe power loss down low. ended up replacing both o2 sensors and fixed it. the code you have is for a primary o2 sensor that controls air fuel. i would definitely put in other 2 sensors in. usually when they are stuck i knock the end of with the wire so i can put a six point socket on it and a pipe. if it strips out autozone sell a 02 sensor thread chaser. got me outta quite a few jams. sorry for the long post but figured may help. oh yeah what brand o2 sensors did you get. bad cat would cause power loss but worse as rpms increase not decrease. jt

JT,

Thanks for the info. I guess I'm gonna try the brut force method to get those o2 sensors out.. As for brand, I bought the Denso's.. heard mixed reviews about the AC delcos.
