Default Y pipe question

have an 01 firehawk that i want to do a few minor bolts ons to. one thing i had in mind was to pull the factory Y pipe (that has the flat section on driver's side) and put in a dynomax 3" ORY. it is a direct bolt in and should make the SLP dual/dual exhaust sound much more agressive. anyone have any vids or sound clips of what this sounds like? or even maybe can tell me? anyone done this Y pipe yet?

Anything will be an improvement on sound quality and performance. Just make sure it's for the shortie manifolds or bolts up to the cats.

oh trust me, ive look high and low for Y pipes. only two companies make them for factory manifolds and its SLP and dynomax. the SLP Y is after cat and is only 2.5" though. the dynomax is manifold to I pipe and its 3". cost for both is within a couple dollars of each other so the dynomax is the obvious choice IMO.

Yeah on the driver side. The tsp does not though. For long tubes not stock manifolds

^ Yeah, but the Pacesetter fits MUCH better. The TSP has a way nicer merge too, but I'd sacrifice a hp or 2 for awesome clearance.

My tsp fits fine with no clearance issues I rarely ever scrap it except on really high speed bumps I can't avoid lol

for all of you talkin of pacesetter Y, and TSP Y, those are for cars with headers. im NOT putting headers on. just a different Y with no cats. Black 98 no offense but im gonna go with the dynomax Y, just curious what a difference it made in sound though?

We added LTs and a TSP ORY to my bro's 35th SS with the factory option Dual/Dual Catback.

Checkout my YouTube Channel, "Cottonwood121", for videos of the car both before and after the Header/Y-pipe installation.

I understand you're planning to retain the factory manifolds and simply replace the Y-pipe, but this will give you an idea of what you might expect your car to sound like with the ORY in place.

IMHO, I wouldn't waste my time or money on replacing only the Y-pipe. The performance gain will be minimal and the aggressive note you're looking for out of the Dual/Dual is very difficult to achieve without the addition of a set of Longtubes and an aftermarket camshaft.

Even after adding the LT/ORY Combo to my brother's car, its still a very quiet catback.
