Yeah i've had my MSD wires on and off multiple times with no issues for well over 2 years. However, a couple of buddies of mine have had a couple come apart on them, but i think it's like any other plug wire that could fail if you pull them off wrong.

Removed the wires first, then removed the spark plug boot. Pried the crimp open on # 2 wire, cut off about 1/4" of insulation and tried to re-crimp it with the core under the crimp. MSD's crimp didn't leave much to work with, but I did it.

I'm afraid it will break in the worst possible place

I may just go with Moroso Ultra 40 wires as MSD and I don't get along very well. I would hate to get these repaired and then break them again. I don't know what it is specifically about these wires, but I have never had an issue with any other spark plug wire, haha.

I think the stock gray boots that come with the wires are kind of weak, I just upgraded mine to the orange pro style boots hoping they'll hold up to the heat a little better.

Are you talking about the Pro Race boots, P/N 3327?

Just did a plug change last week with about 35k on mine, no problem. Even had to re-bend a couple of boots to clear the primaries, no issues. Great wires.

I've had my MSD wires off several times with no issues. Mine were hand assembled from someone besides MSD though. He did state sometimes the factory does not crimp them real well. I like how you can bend the boots in which ever direction you need to clear your exhaust.

Your signature states "I know just enough to be dangerous...", this may be your main issues

Ha, well I had forgot about this thread and didn't report my results. Turns out I was over thinking it, just as my signature implies, Nitroused383.

I attempted to put the "damaged" wires onto the old plugs outside of the engine bay instead of wrestling with them near the headers and other barriers. That seemed to relatively fix the problem. 1 or 2 of the "damaged" wires were still a bit of a pain to "snap" into position, but with me putting them on some old plug outside of the car, sometimes 2-3 times to "fix" them, it worked. I think what was throwing me off is the fact that these boots are bendable. When the wire bends instead of "snaps" into position, it can distort the clips inside the boot and it's harder to "snap" on the plug, BUT if you snap it onto and old plug in an easier environment, that will get them easier to snap onto the plugs in the engine without being a contortion artist.

No issues with my MSD wires here.. Now when I had an LT1, that's a different story because they were so big it was hard as **** to route the wires safely damn optispark

Really? I've never used any dielectric on mine, and never have any issues..

Try using a boot tool when removing your wires as opposed to just yanking them off. It will save them so you can use them over and over. Cheap tool.

My MSDs have been took off maybe 3 times and alot of them won't snap back on either. I can look down the boot and see the connectors tore all to hell. I'm gonna find my stockers and put em back on.

Try snapping them on a loose spark plug on the bench instead of in the car. The first set I destroyed and this wasn't possible, but on the most recent, they weren't too bad and that put the connectors back in spec.

On my second set of taylors. Never had an issue with them in 30k miles. Only reason I'm on my second set is because I needed the truck length this time around.

Hi 1SLwLS1

I am truly sorry if the post came across as spam, that was the reason why I tried to email you PM. To be honest, I have been working for a couple of weeks with both NGK USA and NGK Canada, along with another GM LS4 forum group. Many of the members were trying to figure out why NGK USA does not carry the complete line of wire sets like NGK Canada does for the domestic cars.

A few days ago, we figured the correct wire set (NGK) for the LS4 engine and then started to look into the LS1, LS2, etc...

Again, if it came across as spam, I am truly sorry.

Frank

I've had mine off seriously at least 20 times. They are still 100%.
