What the hell is this for?

What the hell is this for? On the PCV valve there is a small c -clip that went on to my all the PCV lines. What exactly is it for? Is it a ground? Here is a pic of it off LS1howto.com(Thanks JMX

instead of a clip this one has a nut attached to a wire, mine is just a c-clip.
This is off a 99+, mine is a 98. I did the LS6 PCV conversion. BTW is the PCV valve steel nipple suppose to go toward the intake manifold or toward the LS6 valley cover? I have it going towards the intake manifold and the car was having a hard time idling, so I switched it around and the car started idling really smooth
but smoke started coming out of the breather I have on the valvecover
so I let the car run like that for a few minutes and switched it back around(steel nipple toward intake manifold) and now the car idles smooth with it this way too but the smoke stopped coming out of the breather. I'll leave it this way unless I have it wrong.

I think it's to heat up the PCV valve so it operated correclty, but if you ask me, its kind of a primal, ineffective way to do it. I dont think much heat is going to go through that copper wire, especially with how long it is.

I have had mine off for 2+ years now with my custom verticle mount PCV and it's fine. No need for a heat sink, it'll heat up quick enough on it's own.

I don't buy the heat sink theory either. GM has been using PCV valves on cars since 1967 and they never had a heat sink. I think it just a point of attachment so it does not come unplugged from the intake manifold. GM is **** about their connections look at all the safeties they put on electrical connections so they won't come undone.

Whew! I thought that it might be messing something up. I figured it was to hold it in place on the PCV lines but you never know
As for orientation of the PCV valve, is it steel nipple toward the intake manifold or the other way around. I shoulda paid attention to this but I didn't
