Question Who went from ORY to catted Y?

I've had my Pacesetter LT/ORY/Hooker combo for a good 5 years now and do like the way it sounds. However, I'm also 5 years older now and it can be a little loud for daily commuting to work. I know you can weld in cats or a bullet, but I'm considering getting TSP's newer catted Y. This way I still have my ORY if I want it, plus I get the better FM merge.

Who has been in a similar situation and made this switch? Exhaust sound is subjective, but did it quiet things down enough to make it "worth it".

I just welded in cats to my ORY. I couldn't see myself changing the Y-pipe often.

I have the new style TSP catted y and I love it. It replaced a hooker ORY on my car and it helped to mellow out the exhaust. The rasp was eliminated and the car has a slightly deeper tone. All in all I'm glad I did it and I couldn't be happier with the sound. Just as a warning if your car is lowered you may experience some bottoming out on the cats and have to replace them.

TSP Catted Y pipes kill all the rasp. If my car was a track only car I would just get an ORY.

A friend of mine went through the same thing.

He went from:

LT, ORY, Loudmouth
LT, ORY, Borla
LT, ORY, Hooker

And he finally ended up with

LT, ORY(FM Merge), cutout, and stock catback

Here is a video of his exhaust. Just some food for thought

Cutout closed the entire time

Cutout opened a few seconds in

The reason I don't go to a catted Y pipe is because i'm afraid to lose horsepower. Anyone know how much power is killed by going through high flow cats ?

Losing 1-2hp would break my heart

Thanks for the opinions so far. It's sounding like those of you who switched to a catted Y do think it made a worthwhile improvement. My car is a DD for 8 months per year and rarely sees the track, so it looks like cats are the way to go now.

Concept, your friends car sounds a lot more beastly than mine even with the stock catback, lol. I like the sound of my Hooker, just need to reduce some in cabin noise.

Brian, from what I've seen a catted Y will cost you less than 5hp, which I will probably gain back by having a FM merge. I'm not really concerned about it.

Put a cutout in the I pipe and then a bullet muff right after. Loud if you need it.

You will lose a few hp with te hi flow cats according to everyone on here.

You will probably lose around 3-5 hp with cats. Nothing you would even notice.

a couple of -hp for the sound quality your looking for is a fair trade.

I started with a first gen TSP Y.
**** my ***, it sounded so terrible.
Had it cut up and made into a custom ORY with an FM-merge.
Sounded better, still not where I wanted it.
Added Thunderbolt metallic-core cats, MUUUUCCCHHHH better.
It will be getting a little more work done to it here soon.

Id be more worried about clearance than hp loss. There is just no good room for cats under our car bodies. Even at stock ride height it robs a bunch of clearance

Passenger side is fine; the driver's side is definitely a problem.

A catted Y w/FM merge was a big help in quieting my GMMG and killing rasp after adding LT's.

That's for all the feedback everyone. It sounds like the catted Y will give me exactly what I'm looking for. I'll be picking one up shortly.

lol. I'm not sure if it makes a difference what cats Kooks uses in their y pipe (I'm pretty sure they are magnaflow), but I sure as hell am not losing any power. Check my sig and you'll see I'm making more power than most with the same mods with ORY.

I have long tubes, ORY and a GMMG. I also have two Magnaflow bullet cats in the garage getting ready to go into the Y pipe.

Quick Reply: Who went from ORY to catted Y?
