Default Installing Flowtech headers

Tonight, it begins i should be able to write up on it a little saturday or something. Look back here for how it went i'll edit this post.

*************EDIT**************
Ok they're installed. it wasnt that bad really. I had to take out the steering rod to get the driverside header in and drop the starter with the passanger header. Other then that it was basically straight forward. everything went fine and they look great. I want to get the car dynoed on the 6th but i dont know if thats going to happen because tom at speed inc said they werent planning on dynoing any cars. the y-pipe went up really easy to the headers too, that itself probably took 10 minutes. For what i paid im rather happy

make sure you tighten them after a 30 mile period or so. I installed them on a '94 truck, and they needed to be tightened after a couple days driving them.

So this must mean you have them in your hands now. How do they look? Quality? Comparable to the Hookers?

Ok here's my review on the headers quality blah blah. For the price that they cost im happy with them. There is a little texture to the pipes and they're kind of scuffed up. I'm not really worried about that though. the y-pipe is flattened in some areas which i figured it would be when i bought it. I'll take some pictures of the flattened areas tonight before i put it on. I'm going to be posting pics of thea headers and the y-pipe and after they're bolted up etc. these are the first actual ls1 headers i've seen but im sure they dont compare to the hookers or a $600+ set of headers but that's expected. the only thing that im worried about is blowing gaskets since they're not slip fitted headers. I'll find out and just hope i get the bolts tight enough where they wont blow gaskets.

Short version - they are basically a lower quality hooker, i was told they have the same bends and the same design, its just that hooker is slip fitted.

Looks like they dented the primary tube where some have to grind the K-member for clearance. The last set of Pacesetters I installed had to have a tube dented in addition to grinding the K-member.

i took off about 4mm from the kmember w/no denting of any primaries i dont see dents being the best fix for header tubes, maybe its me

I personally won't buy them now after seeing the primaries dented like that. If I wanted a 1 5/8 header I'd buy one. Nope I gotta have un-dented primaries. Guess I'll keep shopping, Just my .02, Fred

i dont see why then dented the primary , fitment is not exact so if it was for k-member clearance what about the guys that dont need knotching, there stuck with a dent primary?

the Y-pipe doesnt look to bad. are those ball flanges?

My Hookers had several quailty issues like missed welds, 02 bung in the wrong place, primaries full of slag, flange wasn't flat, & the header wasn't bent correction so the Y pipe wouldn't fit unless it was cut apart and re-welded. In my experience Hooker quailty = however the Hooker design is excellent.

I'm glad to hear the install went well maybe one day I can put a set of FlowTechs on my wifes 02 Z.

Uhhh... everywhere I've looked online they say Flowtech = Holley, not Hooker.

http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLin...FT/Header.html

Same company?? - edit: nevermind, I got it. Little slow sometimes.

That's interesting if they predented the tubes where potential contact could happen because there's no way I would ever grind my engine block or K-member!!

I will repeat the same crap i said in the other flowtech thread

1. you dont HAVE to grind the block for a header install but its better than having to take out the steering shaft as this take about 1 minute with a sawsal

2. look at your stock kmember when you get a chance youll notice its already been cut and welded at the spot where your having to cut again...next everyone will be on GM's case for this

i bought the headers unaware of the dent, but it has been taken care of and thats why i went ahead and installed them anyways. My y is uncoated because i have a feeling there's going to be some cutting and welding to it so i didnt get it coated. i planned on having a cut-out installed so there wouldnt be a point. The headers have been good so far. i reused the stock steel gaskets also. the ones that came with the headers looked liek garbage and i wouldnt use them.
