Default !EGR mod gone wrong...

I'm hoping this is the right section...

Well, I did the free mod where I cut the EGR tub that goes down into the front of the intake manifold, and I've been having some issues. A friend helped me out, but I think we messed something up. Sometime I get a loud hiss from that area (obviously a leak), so all I do is take the tube back out, readjust the rubber O-ring, put in in, and everything's fine. The thing is, it keeps coming back, and it throws a code everytime. I don't have a scan tool or anything though, to check the code.

What can I do?

Oh, and I guess I should add that I can't tighten the 10mm bolt too much, it will only go to a certain tightness then stop.

Thanks guys.

Try a new slightly thicker o-ring. Bend the tube slightly also so it will put some pressure down on the manifold before you put the bolt back in.

Where do I get a thicker o-ring, is there a part number or anything?

Go to Ace hardware or Lowes and see if they have a Thicker O-ring

Just went out and checked on the car, and it's official that the hole for the bolt to go into was threaded out of the intake manifold. I can still push it in enough to get a seal, but I gotta do something about this.

I hope this isn't my excuse to get an LS6 intake

I'd say its time to get rid of the EGR. Go to an autoparts store and buy a 3/8" freeze plug and throw it in.

If the whole brass fitting came out you can go get some epoxy and fix it that way.I didnt it and it held forever.Make sure you get the epoxy for plastic and high temp.

Put some silicone around the tube where it mates to the intake. Same thing happened to me and that took care of it.

I believe that little bolt only takes something like 50-60 INCH lbs. That's why you broke it. I'd just plug it and remove the EGR, or upgrade to an LS6 intake.

I plan on just removing the EGR now, but is there a way to not get a code (without deleting it with Edit)? I heard somewhere that there might be a resistor I could use. Anyone know anything about this?

Is the bolt hole stripped or the brass came out. Mine leaked when I did it but it was because I slide the o-ring all the way up. I moved the o-ring down and let the tube push it into position when I tightened the bolt.

Yeah, the brass came out. It's still threaded onto the bolt, but it's not attached to the intake manifold anymore.

Exact same thing happened to mine. I just went to Ace Hardware and used some JB weld on it and its held strong so far. That was about 6 months ago.

What exactly is JB weld? I take it it's an adhesive? What kind of container is it in?

I just filled the hole with epoxy and put the bolt back in. Everything should be good now until I get LS1 Edit so I can delete the code. Thanks guys!
