Default exhaust cutout clamp question

Exhaust is 3"

Cutout pipe is 3"

would band clamps be sufficient enough to hold them together? or do i absolutely need 2 small sections of pipe that are a bit larger, and put the band clamps over them?

i dont understand what u mean with the first part, like just have them sit flush and band clamp them? if so nooooo

best thing is to have overlaps in the pipes and band clamp or weld

Yes, temporarily, but it will leak at the first bump or scrape. You should buy a 3x3" ID slip splice or have it welded.

If you don't know or don't have experience, don't answer.

OP, this method will work fine for HOLDING AN ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM UP if you so choose. For a cut-out, of course. And as for leaking.....I don't think so.

I used band clamps on my catback with no problems. Can you see some signs of exhaust leaking out, yes. But not enough that you can hear it. You could always use some orange or copper RTV on them to help seal it up tight.

Have them butt welded. That is the correct way.

thats how it is where my Ypipe meets the I pipe, you can see some heat but nothing worth crying over.

my original plan was to have it welded but i can't find any shop/garage that does.

Just to clear up what i'm asking the cutout pipe and my exhaust pipes are the same diameter, and would be against eachother/next to/ lined up end to end No overlap *The band clamp would act as a sleeve & a clamp, going over both pipes.*

* would that be fine?

Yes, its the butt style band clamp. When it has overlap its a lap style band clamp. It will be fine.

You can also get them from your local Napa or Carquest store.

I don't support the idea of using the clamp without overlapping the pipes. I have seen setups like this and they do slip apart. If the vehicle spends any time going over bumps then they will pull apart over time.
