Default Helpp?

Someone give me some advice! Changed 02 front sesnors-simms in rear, and plugs ( tr55's) this weekend. Car had broken stud on drivers side manifold, (drove like that for awhile, this caused 02 sensor to go bad, car was running rich.) Anyway, I'm under car getting ready to put in #6 spark plug, friend is hading me a socket from top of motor and about were the plug hole is something sparks? Not just a little either, it fell and hit me in the face Nothing near the battery-keys not even in the ignition.
Ignoring it we finished the plugs, put car back together. I have been running a hotcam untuned for about 7-8 months ( Never really noticed a gain.) Took the car out afterwards, RAN LIKE A CHAMP. Best gain I have seen yet! Hauls ***. This is what it needed all along.
BUT, then at a light we all notice a burning smell, not oil or grease from us, but it smells like plastic or worse electrical. Took it home, parked it.
Next morning start it let it warm up, notice black crap like carbon blowing out of the tailpipes with water? THEN SES light comes on? The car sat for a week before this with the y-pipe hanging while I was at school.
Weekend is over and I'm back at school now, car sitting in garage again. ( afraid to drive it, drove blazer )
Could this be a bad ground from the coil?- the socket grounded something?
Could the black stuff, smell like carbon, be condensation in the y-pipe from it being off for a week. I drove it for about 15 minutes tried to blow the crap out didn' t work. Someone please help, Thanks

Only thing with voltage near the passenger side spark plugs is the starter cable, which goes from the starter pole to the battery positive terminal.

Figure out what error code you have causing that SES light and we'll go from there.

Thanks, thats what ls1 speed said. They also said that the carbon or whatever it is in the tailpipes isn't a big deal? Does that mean that there is a bad ground near the starter cable? Will the smell go away, or if I keep driving it will I fry something. Not very good with electronics. Thanks for help. I'll post when i get that DTC.

If something smells like burning plastic, find it. You don't have to be good with electronics to find something burning Try to at least figure out which side it's coming from. There's a wiring harness on the passenger side that is vertical next to the exhaust manifold. Check the plug wires too. Check everything.

I wouldn't worry about the sparks, the starter and starter cable is on the passenger side underside of the motor. I have done the same thing before. Scared the crap outta me. I also managed to hit it when putting on my headers, talk about a shower of sparks.

How bad is the exhaust? It's normal to have carbon deposits in the exhaust, but if you're blowing out giant clouds of black smoke, you might have an issue. Btw, if the plugs were in fact the problem, and you were running super rich, you probably had tons of carbon buildup on your pistons. Maybe with good plugs and a good tune, you're now ridding yourself of some of that carbon buildup. It probably smells terrible too, like sulfur.

Btw, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure black exhaust means you're running rich. Blue is oil, and white is coolant/water.

There is no smoke in the exhaust, it was running really rich. Bad enough to foul out plugs. The carbon in the exhaust is kind of mixed in with some condensation? The car still isn't tuned but the 02 sensors helped lean in out. I just hope that driving for another month will screw up the new 02's or plugs, I really don't want to replace them again before tuning. I just want it running top notch before tuning ( so does ls1speed. ) I will check the code(s) this weekend and post back. Thanks

Sorry, I hope it WON'T screw up the new 02's! Any feedback appreciated. Thanks
