Default open headers

i know this may sound a little rediculous, but has anybody here ever run open headers on the street,
i only ask because one night i was cruisin around and a guy with a mustang cobra pulled up next to me and his exhaust sounded really good, i asked him what he had and he said nothing more that headers, it didn't even seem that overly loud, so i dunno if he was not telling the truth or what?

My friend ran hooker headers to a Y-pipe and it was loud as hell but sounded great. the y-pipe fell off one night when we were going over some railroad tracks (lowered car) and he ran open headers for a few days. It was ******* stupid loud. I wouldn't recommend it at all. But open y-pipe is a different story.

If you want a good sound, and not just stupid loud get true duals dumped before the axle. Somewhat tame when driving around, when screams at WOT. I've heard a mustang open headers before, sound just as shitty as an LS1 with open headers. Don't do it.

definitely not recommended. it will have NO tone and just be loud. everything in your car will constantly rattle and there would be no use having a radio.

add that to the fact that you are gonna foul o2 sensors pretty quickly from outside air making its way back into the primary. If you want loud, weld a cutout or two inline with the exhaust so you can sort of control the volume. I have cutouts behind each header, which when i open them up, its loud, but just obnoxious loud.

i was planning on doing true duals anyway, but prob. have a shop do it, but i figured i would install the the headers at home and drive it to the exhaust shop, about 4 miles away with open headers, bad idea?

You'll be fine driving it to the exhaust place with the open headers...same thing I did. And yes open headers sound terrible. : )

I bought my SS with open headers. It has a Y pipe that came with the but not all of it is installed on the car. Right now it only has the pipes that connect to the primaries on each side. Its loud enough to make me not want to drive the car until I get a cat back on it, mostly because it is pretty much dumped right below the 2 front seats. Its stupid loud and I do not recomend it, and I like my cars loud.
