Default swap out flowmaster, go with cut out, or both?

Its a bolt on LS1 made 340HP at the wheels,it has Headers,ORY,flowmaster catback and im looking for some more power out of it along with some better sound as well, im stuck on my decision. Either just swap the flowmaster muffler out for a Magnaflow (pn. 12265) about $100 bucks plus install....or go with a QTP 3" electric cutout right after the merge of the Y Pipe and then run to the flowmaster(or Magnaflow). just looking for a little input guys thanks.

By better sound, Im assuming you mean a little less noise or rasp? If so then a magnaflow or hooker aerochamber would sound better. A cutout would probably be more raspy and louder than the muffler you already have.

just wanting something different honestly, something that flows better and sounds different but after reading the proclaimed 10-20RWHP gains after doing cut outs thats really what i would like.

Get the cutout then, it flows better than any over the axle catback.

will cut out's being opened only benefit for peak numbers or will it help the power curve throughout?

It may be all in my mind, but I swear with my cutout open my car feels a little boggier down low than with it closed. Nowadays, I rarely ever use the cutout because I don't feel like getting under the car and screwing with it. Now if it was electric it would be cool.
Since you want something different and the FLowmaster IS NOT the "Flowmaster" I would just replace the muffler with something that you like, go to youtube and listen to peoples cars and see what sounds good to you. A cutout gets pretty old on a 45min trip, **** vibrating everywhere inside the car. Gets peoples attention though. Fun in town, but not on long hwy/interstate trips.

This is true. No backpressure often leads to loss of torque down low.

flowmaster merge (2)3" in 4" out then a cut out then a small muffler then step it back down before the axle= more power less rasp, then save up more $ and go all the way with the 4" and get a magnaflow or something

Put my car on a dyno yesterday and ran with cutout open and closed. The higher run is with it open and the other(lower) run is running through a Borla adjustable catback. Car has 160,000 miles on it so I was just wondering what it would make. Also remembered this post so I figured I would unbolt the cutout and see the difference.

nice solid increase, thats really exactly what i was looking for just a bolt on car with a cut out before and after. It didn't loose any power throughout the curve and even at 2000 rpm there was still a gain and you have a good flowing cat back also my "Slowmaster" should show the same if not better gains. Thanks for the Dyno Sheet and the post you helped make my decision there.

Would have been exactly what I wanted to see if you only had Lt's and TSP oryp on it.

I don't really know, if I had to guess I would say prolly around the same. By September I will let you know. I will be getting LT's and do the same test with cutout open and closed. Hopefully, you will know before me.

What's cool about an e-cutout is you can crack it open just a little if you want. Sure, it all fun scaring old ladies and making babies cry, but most of the time I just crack it a little. The only time mine is wide open is when I'm making a pass. The only time it's closed all the way is when I have a cop behind me. Keep what you got and add the cutout.

Yeah I am really considering doing an electric cutout. The manual just sucks *** unless you just wanna use it at the track. Then you still gotta roll around on the ground and its just a pia. I would like to have the option of using it anywhere I want.
This guy gained less than I did
