Default Oil pressure and Temp gauge

Stupid question here, I just dont remember, when I turn off my 98 SS the oil pressure and temp gauge stay at the current position they were at when the car was running. But when I turn the key to accessory they go to zero, if I turn back to off they go back to the previous reading, is this normal? It's been a while since I have driven the car I just can't remeber (must be OLD TIMERS DISEASE) Thaks guy's
