Ls1motor swap, Aftermarket tach HELP NEEDED
Hi everyone, ive finally joined! everytime id search for the answer to an ls1 question ive had through out my entire build project i would always be sent here! so it was the obvious. Seems like a great form and look forward to being a part of it!
Alright, with that said heres my issue... i have just about completed my ls1/T56 swap in my 92 camaro. Im now at the stage of hooking up all the gauges and what not. I used a 2002 ls1 with a stand alone painless wiring harness. The research ive done told me to set my autometer tach to the four cylinder setting and run my green (tach signal) wire from the tach to a white wire coming off the pcm pin #10 however ive done this and nothing happens the tach turns on when the keys on and i can adjust the shift light but once its started its stays the same as if it running... ive seen people talk about using a resister but others have told me thats not necessary... im sorta stumped. only thing im a little unsure of is the wire i used to extend the green wire off the tach is a little heavier of a gauge but i would think id still get some sort of signal....no??? maybe i could pull off of a coil?? or get a tach adapter? Id just really like to avoid going crazy redoing everything and racking my brain with all these possibilities anymore than i have to ha.. Any in put at all would be so much appreciated... Thanks alot guys!

Hey thanks thats extremely helpful! that tach adapter should be in today... im probably just gunna hook it back up using the adapter tho... i already removed all the wiring and prepared it for the adapter and i hate dealing with returning things.... Thanks again tho man! im sure that information is gunna help others in the future! and im happy to know what the heck was going on now

put the tach adapter in today and it works perfectly, simple to install and worked perfect first try... worth the money for the sole reason of how simple and quick it made it! I did some research about the tach adapter and some people were complaining of the needle fluttering but mine seems to be working fine.... just for anyone looking for input on the adapter... i give it an A+
